2006 C230; 2007 GL450 (2008 GL450 on order and due to arrive early to mid Aug.)
MBUSA Site is updated!

I see that the MBUSA site is now updated with info on the 2008 GL line (including info on the 550).

I know that this will add a lot of new info but it will also spark a few new questions. One question that arise for me concerns the RSE package. The RSE package is described as being "Dual Screen/Source" ... does this mean that MB will now support playing to different DVDs -- one on each screen. Also, the headsets are now described as "wireless headsets."

Anyone know? GL Fahrer?

The BYO site is sparse on details. Reading the specs I see NO reference to ADSII function???? It is on the NetStar as Code 214 but no details or mention in the Specification section. Some 1024 images on the Photo/Video page.

Grille

As soon that grille is available and someone confirms it would fit, I have to replace mine

You will also have to replace the front bumper and skid plate as well. There could be other changes which are not obvious. A difficult and expensive mod I think.

I noticed this as well and my dealer is trying to get the final word. I'll report back when I hear from him.

Anyone else who would reconsider the 550 if it does not have ADS?

I checked the ML550 BYO and the ADSII is an option by itself in the P3 package along with the Air Suspension.

It may be that when the GL spec says Air Suspension, it includes the ADSII. The Netstar shows it as Code214 for build purposes.

I am with you and want a firm YES it is included.

When I spend this kind of money for a vehicle I expect it to have the features that make it a special one. ADSII is a feature that improves the ride and offers an option in handling. Mercedes Benz should make it clear whether ADSII is or is not a "standard feature" of the GL550.

Let us believe that ADSII is part of the loaded GL550 and it wil thus likely be there... I'm just following the "law of attraction". Maybe you would like to read "The Secret".... Pretend like all will be yours and it will... Postive energy man- better and more productive than the alternative
Besides this has been touted as loaded big bertha GL... It's gotta be there

All well and good "The Secret..." but when the GL450 was released and the reviewers talked about the ADSII features and the Sport/Cruise mode button, most future buyers assumed it was standard. However, after delivery and later with the 320CDI, buyers were hunting for the S/C button but it was blank. We all eventually found out that it was not available on the diesel and only available on the 450 if your purchased the ORP package. In fact I contacted MBUSA and was told they do the research and know what buyers want. Well they didn't know what buyers wanted in the case of the ADSII feature.

So "it ain't gotta be there..." and I want confirmation that it will be there. I will be sending a email to MBUSA today to verify the ADSII is on the GL550, and if so, why is it not mentioned in the spec sheet?

One possible difference is that (as far as I know) there was never any indication from MBUSA that ADSII was actually standard on the GL450. The vehicles handed out to the reviewers were loaded with the ORP and therefore had it, and readers inferred that it was standard. However, MBUSA DOES say on my full spec sheet that it's there in the 550. They have the right to change specifications without notice, but I can't imagine why they would drop ADSII. Also, if not standard on the flagship, one would expect it to be an option at least. These factors make me hopeful that it's really there and just an oversight on the website and summary page. But I'm like you, NJ, I need confirmation before I finalize my order.

You are correct on the reviewers getting the ORP cars. I just finished sending an email to MBUSA and if history is followed, I should have a response in a day or two.

(An aside on their web site accuracy and updating. At the bottom of the form they ask what you own, model, etc. and they still do not show a 2007 model year to select from....'06 is the latest one to select.)

Jack,

Just noticed that your thinking of a GL again. Another 320? 550? or holding out for a 420?

I will know something definite tomorrow on a GL550...have been in discussions for a couple of days. I cannot say enough for the 5.5 engine in combination with the 7 speed tranny. I would probably love to have a GL420 but just do not want to wait that long. This GL550 package surprised me with it's content and pricing so we will see where things end up tomorrow...:-)))

The arrival of the 420 should be just about right for me to sell the 320!

I see where Audi has announced they will bring their V6 diesel to US for 50 states in 2009 MY and put it in the Q7. That will definitely accelerate the diesel surge and I think they are talking their V10 in 2010.

Yes, it is kind of a pleasure to only have about 5 options and "everything" is included for one price.

At least almost everything...do you think ADSII will be on it...ROTFLMAO...

What makes you think they are not surfing instead of working...:-)

I've been retired 21 years so I never experienced a surfing problem...saw a lot of magazines and newspapers folded quickly though....

1972 Chevy Vega 2300 - Panel Express
just got to my computer to see questions about ADS...

IT IS STANDARD ON THE GL550.

N/A on the GL320 CDI (O.R. package n/a)
Optional on the GL450 (with the O.R. package)
