I've been experiencing a bit of a Bluetooth hiccup myself on occasion.
Sometimes when I press the TEL button, and the COMAND system attempts to connect to the phone (an iPhone in this case), the screen will briefly show the options for the telephone (Received, Dialed, Contacts, etc) and then it will jump to the "PHONE OFF" message. If I press the TEL button again, the same thing occurs, it will appear that the phone is connected until it again reports "PHONE OFF".
The only solution I have found to this is to reset the iPhone. Once reset, everything always goes back to working normally until the issue shows up again at random.
I'm not ruling out a problem with the iPhone here, but I never seem to have these issues in my S. If I'm not mistaken, both the S and the GL use the same bluetooth module.
Is anyone else using Bluetooth with their iPhone having issues like this?

I just bought a new iPhone, but have not yet programmed it to my vehicle. My other cell phone, a Motorola make, worked fine, or so I thought until this new problem surfaced. I'll probably program my new iPhone tomorrow after the road assistant has left. Any problems with the synching of the iPhone with the craddle adapter?

We have iphones and do not have any problems linking with the GL. The bluetooth connection will drop automatically after a time lapse (assuming you remove your smartkey). An indication on your iphone that you are no longer connected is the bluetooth symbol un-highlighted in upper right corner.

2016 GL63 & 2008 S550
Sure enough, when I went to take the GL out this evening, the same thing occurred. When I went to pair the phone again, I noticed something that I think might be the cause here...
I've paired my iPhone with both my S550 and the GL450. Both of the cars' COMAND systems identify themselves as MB Phonesystem to Bluetooth devices. My theory is that when the iPhone goes to do it's Bluetooth handshake/key exchange, it thinks the GL's "MB Phonesystem" is the one for the S550.
I went ahead an removed the paring for both cars, and I will only pair the iPhone with the GL to see if this is the issue. I'll let you guys know how it shakes out.
If the issue still occurs, I'm thinking that the iPhone reset is still the best option for me, as usually when I discover that it's not linking properly, I'm already driving, and I can't easily access all of the menus for the iPhone without severe distraction. It's much easier in this case to just reset the phone, than risk an accident.

I have a GL and an S550 and my Blackberry 8820 pairs perfectly with both. My wife drive the 550 and when we are both in that car, her phone will pair first.

Hmm, I think perhaps it's iPhone-related.
As I said, I will un-pair both cars from the iPhone, and only pair up with the GL. I'll run with that for a few days to see if the behavior creeps back up.

I have a GL550 and the 8830 through Verizon and it worked right out of the box. Zero problems.
Make sure you have the latest Blackberry DEVICE firmware, I believe it's v4.2. Download it from here: http://vzw.smithmicro.com/blackberry/

When I bought the GL in June 2007, I could get the Verizon Blackberry 8830 to pair fine (all the handsfree stuff worked and you could manually dial out), but not transfer the phone book. I tried everything to get it to transfer. Would not work. Somewhere on this site there was a post about a new 'stealth' upgraded puck that would work, along with a new part number. During a regular service, my dealer replaced the puck with the new part number as a favor, even though they were convinced that the 8830 would not work, as it was not listed on the compatible phone website. I had to give them the new part number - the dealer was not aware that there is an old and new puck.
After re-pairing the 8830 with the new puck, it worked - sort of - it automatically transferred the phone book, but only about the first 1/3 of the contacts. I have over a thousand contacts on the 8830, and another post somewhere on this site indicates there is a Mercedes phone book limit (I think a couple hundred). The solution was to go into the 8830 and (1) set up a special category (I called mine 'car'), (2) add that category designation to every contact that I wanted downloaded to the Mercedes, and (3) go into the 8830's bluetooth settings, and set it so that it only transfers contacts with the 'car' category. After all that, everything works like a charm - all the contacts I need in the GL are transferred every time I start the truck, all the handsfree and dialing works fine.
One thing to remember - in your phone, set the bluetooth configuration so that it will allow automatic recognition of the MB phone system without prompt every time you turn on the GL.

Key pad locks
I have the blackberry which is from office. As a corporate policy, the phone keypad automatically locks after the phone is not in use for a few minutes. Would I have to unlock the keypad each time I need to make a call or the BT bypasses it and lets me dial from the Car's keypad or phonebook ?
