550 is in the HOUSE

Well, not yet, it's coming TOMORROW! The closet is ready NJ.

Thanks everyone for your support, can't wait to OFFICIALY become a member.

Coincidentally, I was at the dealer last night so my wife could test drive an ML550, which they didn't have, and the dealer told me mine was being delivered today and would be prep'd and ready for delivery on Friday.

I asked the dealer if customers were permitted to sleep over.

Way to go! Looking for the pics and all that chrome...:-)

BTW...saw the post on mud-flaps. I too will pass on these, regardless of what MBUSA says it appears the "factory fit" will not be a good one.

ok, it's the morning of...delivery is at 4:30. I wanted to take delivery pics but it gets dark early now and won't be possible I think. I also don't like the idea of taking delivery when I can't see the detail of the paint. Well, it's either take my chances tonight or wait until Monday. We all know I am not going to wait until Monday. Hopefully the dealership is brightly lit and it won't be a problem. I'll check back tonight!!

roof rails

i know the excitement. i just picked up my ob black/black gl 550 last week.
i pikced it up in the evening. the first time i put gas in i noticed there were dents on the inside of the chrome roof rails, four of them, very noticeable..almost like somone had put i vice there.
anyway, the car has been at the dealer now for 3 days, waiting fore the backordered rails to arrive. should get it back today.

enjoy

Congrats. You will really enjoy the HID lights and cornering low speed fog lamps. It is astonishing how quiet the truck is at any speed. If you got the cross rails (extra option I understand with the 550) have them leave them off. They are easy to put on and off and you can hear them at speed.

Here's the other side of the coin... I'd leave them on. I don't notice any noise difference until you reach over 100mph. Why bother, unless you are worried about mpg.

Lastly, I finally got my wind noise problem fixed for the roof cargo box. That one you could hear at 10mph. Now, you don't notice a thing until you hit about 75mph.

NICE!

I love Nish's response!

Actually, the solution was sooooo easy. I'm really embarrassed for the dealer. My MB SA and Mechanic tried to tell me the whistling noise was just normal and to be expected when the cargo carrier is on the roof. Yeah right!

I talked to the parts guy and he gave me two rubber strips similar to the ones in our chrome crossbars. I cut them down to the exact size to fit in the center of the bar in two places when the cargo carrier is on the roof. VOILA! No more sound.

I really wonder if SA's and Mechanic's just think we're all a bunch of Patsies and will accept any answer they give.

My apologies to the one and only true Patsy. By the way... how was that ride home tonight?

So you don't see a difference in the wind noise with the crossbars? Maybe the chrome ones are different than the standard ones that come with the ORP/450 which I got. I really notice the difference even at 74mph!
NJ is there a diffrence in the bars?

I don't have the cross bars so I cannot really comment. But I would think that they are the same except one is chromed and the other is a black finish.

TM,

Here are a couple of pics of my chrome cross bars. I don't know what the 450's cross bars look like, so let us know the difference between mine and yours when you get time.
