Getting some mods done in a week...

Hey all just wanted to say that im getting some tint done tomorrow and I ordered the carlsson lowering module from my local shop and that should be here in a few days. Usually I wouldnt lower the car unless I am getting rims but I am still torn on if I should get wheels or not. The 21s that come on the 550 are very nice and I was going to get 23s but when I found out that the new 23" Brabus Monoblock E retail for $3,495 a piece without tires I obviously had to rethink that. So I am going to see how the GL looks lowered with the stock 21s and hopefully that will make the wheels look bigger than they do now because I really dont want to have to spend a grip of money just to get 1 more inch out of a 22in wheel. Take care all and I will post pix after the tint and lowering are done.

14k on wheels = ...especially when the "truck" comes with 21" wheels as is, which look GREAT

Are you tinting the windshield and the two front windows only? Would like to have your comments when done and of course pics...:-)

I am tinting the rear as well because when my 9 month old is in her car seat the sun still shines on her face through the privacy glass. I am doing the fronts a bit but no windshield.

Thanks. I think I will do the front only but that is strictly because I only have back seat riders occasionally.

Update: Tint has been done, the Carlsson lowering module should be arriving anyday now, and today I ordered the Brabus Sport Exhaust which they have in stock so I will be installing that when the module comes in so I can get it all done at once. Then I will take pictures

I was thinking of getting the Renntech module. Any particular reason you chose the Carlsson?

For all intensive purposes they are the same. The Carlsson lowers I believe 1.4" and you can adjust it in 5mm increments.

It's "intents and purposes" not "intensive" purposes!

Soon after I bought the GL, I had the front windows tinted using dark film to match the sides and rear glass. Since the windows are all of the heat reflective variety, there's a minimal difference between the front windows and the rest of the glass, but the overall effect is quite uniform. Having said that, if a LEO decides to put a meter to them, I'm getting a ticket .

Since your 550 is very fast, I am sure the two of you balance each other perfectly

How good is the tinting process these days? Better then the "peel off" stuff from days past? I wouldn't mind getting my 550 darker. What's a good place to go and get that done, how should I research it?

I can tell you that good, modern tint is guaranteed against going purple or bubbling or all the other stuff you used to see on the Firebird Trans Ams of the 1980's (and even into the 90's).

The stuff that MB uses to coat the windows on three-zone climate trucks is nearly invisible (enough so that they can do the windsheild as well) and cools the car without necessarily making it any darker at night. It apparantly can, however, interfere with some fuzzbusters, so ... something to think about.

The Carlsson lowering module is being installed as I type, for some reason they still havent got the exhaust even though Brabus said it was in stock. Pictures coming tomorrow of the lowering and tint for those interested.
