Couple of questions for existing owners...
DVD - has anyone put an aftermarket roof mounted unit it? 2700 for behind the headrests seems like a lot IMO.
How prone is the car to door dings - do the side moldings help keep them to a min?
3 zone climate - is it worth the $$$$$
P2 vs P1 - any comments?
thx

BMW 335 Conv.; MB GL 320CDI
I have the the 3 zone climate (as part of the P2 package) and think it is excellent, though I have not experienced it in the summer when I imagine it would be even more valuable. I tend to load my cars up so I am a fan of all the items in the P2 package which I would have purchased in any event As you will see from other posts, the illuminated door sills are ridiculous (cost wise) and a must have; I appreciate them every time I open the door in darkness.
Overall , I love the vehicle and no issues after 2,000 miles; obviously not long enough to know whether MB's quality control and my personal luck will hold out.
No dings yet.

As to door dings, I have the stainless sideboards that generally help fend off the lower setting car doors and I believe that has kept my doors free of dings. The 3-zone climate system is necessary if you have regular use of the third row passenger seats, particularly in warmer climates and I would think for re-sale value (although all car values seem to fall like a rock, some just from higher paid prices!)

I do think that with the advent of video iPods and various other hand-held entertainment systems, RSE is over-rated. I've had a system in three of my last four cars and not used it nearly as much as would have made it worth what I spent.

No dings on my door...I'm so **** that I always park my GL in the lifted position so that if there is a chance a heavy door comes my way, it'll hit my stainless steel side steps instead.

I have the 320CDI and the P2 pkg....a good value. Three zone a/c is a must in the South and along with the infrared windows, the system works very well.
No door dings yet...still parking smartly!!
Only challenge I have so far is getting used to the 7 speed tranny. Lots of clunks when costing and re-engaging....like when slowing up to turn.

Thanks...
Folks for the replies - the running board saving dings makes sense.
I only wish Diesel & premium were the same price or less - like in every other country! THat would make the decision real easy! I agree - i think P2 is looking better to me know as well...

I was just in the UK and for the first time since I started going over there Diesel was more than premium unleaded. I understand it's happening all over Europe. If it keeps up, the popularity of Diesel's increased efficiency will no longer make economic sense and folks will start buying petrol cars over there again.

GL450 Premier Edition
I have had my GL450 since July 2007. It is the Premier Edition that came with pretty much every option, available at that time. So far I haven't had any major issues with the vehicle other than a squeaking roof and that was fixed at my Service B.
The rear DVD entertainment is nice, however, I wish there were some wireless headphones. The 3 climate control is a great feature, but I think unnecessary. The standard AC control is strong enough and gives enough control.
I love the GL and with over 26,000 miles on it I am looking to probably buy it out at the end of the lease.
