Charge phone with car off?
Hi there,
We have a 2007 GL450 that my wife now drives since I got an S63 earlier this year. She used to charge her cell phone in her Audi Q7 overnight, but it seems the GL450 turns off the cigarette lighter power when the car is off (to save battery presumably). Are there any of them in the car that will stay on even while the car is off? Or is there some easy setting I can change to get this functionality? Any help is appreciated! |
The one on the passanger's side under the dash sould do the trick.:y

Does anyone know if the GL turns off the outlet when the phone is done charging? I've found this out the hard way in previous vehicles. :smash: |
The power outlet in the passenger footwell is hot full-time.

I saw some reference to a power outlet in the front passenger footwell. My '07 doesn't have this feature. Is it new for '08? |
My 07 450 has the wheel well outlet, and it does turn off. I just now went & grabbed my phone, which had been plugged since around 7:30 this am. The circuit was definately dead.
However: I have noticed on multiple occasions, when I turn the GL off while the phone remains plugged in, the charge indicator on the phone remains on. Could there be some sort of current draw sensor that keeps the outlet live "on demand", then turns it off? |

Absolutely correct. I charge my cell phone from this outlet all the time on my '07 320.
Have you plugged anything in after your car sits overnight and before starting the engine? |

I just went out and checked my '08 450. It has not been started yet today. The passenger side foot well was hot and so was the rear outlet under the climate control as mentioned above. The only two that didn't work was the cigarette/ashtray outlet or the one in the back cargo area (behind third row seats). I am glad this thread was started because when the ashtray one went out I assumed they all did and never bothered charging my phone in my car:p:

I was reading the pdf version of my owners manual shortly after my previous post. According to this file:
>>>You can use the power outlet in the cargo compartment or in the front of the rear seats even if the ignition is switched off.<<< Oddly, this file makes no mention of the outlet located in the front passenger footwell, which is the one my charger stays plugged in to. |

Except that Junior is now in the 88. The 8 ride is now shared by Mark Martin & Aric Almirola.

Go check again - I was also surprised to find the front passenger footwell outlet upon a full read of the manual - Even if you are looking right at it, it is easy to miss - every GL has this outlet - and they are powered full time. You would think that MB would put a little label on it or make it a different color.

Can it be ordered online? Please do not tell me to go to the dealer. There is only one MB dealer in Panama and these people have room temperature IQ's. Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me. . |

Hi everyone. I do have to disagree with: "every GL has this outlet". Here is a pic of my GL and it does not have the outlet.
