Can nav be used w/o the audio on?

Can nav be used w/o the audio on?
I have an '07 and this is driving me crazy. Is there a way to use the navigation without having the audio on? I checked the manual, but I don't see anything. I have to be missing something.

Easy way...
First I want to make sure I understand you so I offer two scenarios.
1. You want the NAV on, but no Audio instructions...press the repeat button on the bottom of the screen this will repeat your last nav audio direction, while it is speaking, turn the volume down. This will only affect the volume level of the Nav audio, not the radio audio, but must be down during the audio directions.
2. You want the NAV on but you do not want any music on...similar, just turn down or mute the audio of the radio or Sat.
I prefer not to use mute, but it too is an option as stated before. Just remember, you will only affect the volume of the nav audio while she/it is speaking.

Thanks for the replies. I did mean can you have the nav on without music. It works a bit different in my other cars so thought I was missing something.

(while we are on the subject of names... best CAT name ever, ....use German accent,...Klause VonMeowden) I don't have a cat and giving that name to a dog aint right. Feel free to use it.
P.S., just don't forget if you happen to turn the volume down just after she gives you directions you may be turning the GPS down.

Okay, first, from a dog guy (NOT a cat guy), that's the very best pet name ever, bar none.
Second, regards Ingrid (or Marcia or whomever); Last night, while getting directions to my house (with which I am fairly familiar, I believe), she spoke up and told me to drive X-miles on the current road. I hit repeat and turned her all the way down. I hit repeat again and the radio was muted to allow her to talk, even though there was no way to hear her. So I turned her back up with another press of repeat, and on the next press of repeat I hit "Mute" - WHILE SHE WAS TALKING. I got a message on the screen that verbal directions (or something like that) were muted. For the rest of the trip, nothing from her. Just to check, as soon as I got home I re-set home as my destination (just to get an immediate completion of the trip) and she was right back at normal volume.
So, I don't know if that works on every year but on the '07 320CDI, it does.
Now as for her name, my wife named our first GPS "Ingrid" because of the demanding way it spoke to us, and that's kind of been the default name since. But funnier yet is my Garmin nuvi, because it has several languages available and within a few of those languages are personalities (like it's got "American English," "American English-Jack (TTS)" and "American English-Jill (TTS)". But the funny one's under "Svenska" (Swedish), is "Svenska-Ingrid (TTS)". Hysterical.

Thanks all, it certainly did help.
Funny I have factory nav in my other cars and all have their pros and cons. Had one on my Navigator and it was the worst. Database didn't have nearly as many destinations as you would want, klugy interface and you couldn't enter a destination while the car was moving. Obviously done for safety concerns (but I could also get distracted by playing with the audio system as well). So the fact that you can enter a destination in the GL while moving is a good thing to me. I especially like that you can speak the spelling of the address, and stay hands free. I also thought the lack of touch screen would be more of a disappointment, but I have to say it's not at all. It's laid out well, and keeps the fingeprints off of the screen.
One neat feature that my Acura has is that you can set a pin # for your home address so it won't be displayed or utilized unless the pin is entered. I would have liked that one on the GL. I remember reading that you should set your home address a few blocks or so away, so if the car is with a valet or stolen someone can't come back and open the garage.

Home address change... EXCELLENT idea.
I always worry about leaving my address in my cars when I sell them. Incredibly simple but really good idea. I will make those changes today, (ok, soon). Seriously if your keys get swiped then they have access to your other cars and the keys to your house. Of course with my wife being the martial artist she is I am not worried about her being home alone; I AM WORRIED about me being home alone.
