So Long and Thanks for All the Fish
Okay, so that one's taken, but still ... today my GL was sold. It's been a love/hate relationship the whole way. It's a beautiful truck, which was an absolute thrill to drive, but it simply wasn't reliable, full stop. It's unfortunate that a truck I wanted to keep for the rest of my days wasn't one that wanted to stay with me, but that's the way it goes.
I don't know where I'll go from here, but I wish all of you the very best of luck. I sincerely doubt I'm gone for good - heck, I was a fairly early member of this particular thread, if I recall correctly - but I won't be speaking from the position of ownership anymore. I do hope you all enjoy your GLs at least as much as I enjoyed mine, and certainly moreso with hopes for a much greater reliability than I have had. So, so long and ... God bless. Steve |

I haven't been here that long, but have seen and read many of your posts. Good luck with your new ride and definitely let us know what you get!!! Wondering if you have any CDs/Repair manuals or MB Star left overs... PM me. :)

STP-- I wish you the best in whatever you decide to move on to. I also thank you very much for all your advice during my GL saga.
Happy Trails! Tam |
He will be back with the 2013 gl. Mark my words. Peace steve!

Steve, glad I popped in to see this. Hopefully you will be lurking around and blessing everyone with your wisdom, occasionally. Good luck with whatever you next choice may be.
We still have the '08 320 CDI (70K), but keeping a watchful eye on the progress (or lack thereof) of the 2.2L GLK. |
How can this be true?
|
Enjoyed all of your contributions over the years. Have a party not a funeral !

Good luck and let us know the GL's replacement. |
Brock, I know it hurts and I'm sorry. It's not you, it's me. I was in a toxic relationship and I had to get out.
List of items for sale to come. Scarecrow, I think I'll miss you most of all! |
Is your victim-buyer going to purchase a warranty? If I remember you had fairly high mileage.

Wow, sorry to see you move on STP. You've been a source of information, advice and humor to many of us here over the years. Good luck in the future and God bless.

In order: the purchaser is taking the vehicle to a little town just outside of Moscow, which is where old high-mileage Mercedes go to die - I don't know if they will or won't deal with that mileage. Next, what sheepskin seat covers? I never got 'em! Last, for Jim, thank you.

Terribly sorry to see you go. But getting rid of that cursed vehicle was well-deserved. Any ideas on what you'll replace it with?

Announcement: You're all officially going to hate me! I've found a vehicle which will serve my porpoises (sic). Seeing as how a) my kids are now driving themselves (well, the daughter drives the son when he needs it) and b) I no longer need a big car for long trips because c) I'm mostly going into downtown Phoenix from Scottsdale (right, right, this is a hell of a lot of justification), I've gotten myself a ... a ... Prius.
There, I said it. It's a 2010 as-yet-untitled Prius Five (not the new Prius V with the nicer back, which won't be out until late this year a the earliest) with the Advanced Electronics Package (radar cruise, lane assist, etc. etc.). It's red with a gray interior. It was a bear to find, too, because as you may well imagine Prius production's down to pretty much nil in Japan right now, and as gas prices continue to climb ... let's just say, outside of taxes I've pretty much paid for it with what I sold the GL for (thank goodness I was selling the diesel). Pictures to come after pickup, if they don't ban me from the forum for posting 'em. |
I hate you.
Why not the Lexus CT? |
Do not title that car! Still have time to abort! What about the hybrid vw touareg???
|
Prius is only good for city driving, highway driving your consumption will be pretty high.
My friend won a lawsuit in Europe with Toyota because his Prius was a gas guzzler. On highway in highway speed you will always run on gas engine. Figures they were showing in consumption guide were not reachable. GLK will be Diesel this year at least for Canada from what I know maybe even for US. 2.2l Diesel no bluetec will beat Prius hybrid. |

Wrong, my brothers 130 mile round trip commute averages 47mpg. 2011 Prius and 90% I5 travel.
It is true that hybrids are at their best in city-style driving. The brake energy recovery is critical to how they work. - Mark |

I'd rather have a Jetta TDI for an all-highway commute like that.

All the best and look at the bright side of your GL ownership saga - you made some new and great friends. |
