2012 GL or Wait??

All,

I've got a question. I'm new on this forum so be gentle with me http://mercedesforums.net/mercedes-f...es/biggrin.gif. I'm in the market for a GL for my wife, budget is between 40 & 55K. I'm looking at a pre owned 2012 GL 450, but i've read that the new GL should be out fall of this year. Obviously, i dont want the car to be oudated in less than a year. Do you guys think the new GL would be strikingly different and I should just wait? Or go ahead and pull the trigger now?. Any thoughts?

$40-55k for a used 2012 GL450? Not going to happen. Maybe a 2010, or you may be able to get a new 2012 later this year when they clear them out for the 2013.

I say wait for the new 2013 to come out and decide then. Seems like it will be out of your budget though.

I agree with the above poster. I just purchased a 2011 GL450 produced on 4/2011 fully loaded with P2 package plus a lot of additional options and CPO, which means I have 4.5 years of warranty, with 6K miles for 65k (original msrp was $78K). I also struggled with the thought of the new model coming out but I liked the vehicle too much to pass up. After all , there will always be a new model coming out. So my suggestion to you is if you can find a 2012 car in new shape for the deal you describe then jump on it.

In my view, for a 2012 to be discounted that much (between $40K and 55K) out of a msrp between $69K and $78K or so, means that the car will have VERY high miles for being less than a year old, or being in major accident already. Even if it is the most basic model they produced it should sell for more than that. They do loose a lot of their value but not at that rate!

2009 was the last 'refresh' so know an '09-'12 will all be extremely similar just dependant upon exact options. CPO '09's are available at the low-end of your price range, so with such a spread in budget you may be best served by lurking for the perfect features for you and jumping on best '09-'10 that pops up for you.

If your budget is from $40K to $55K - I think one of the best options for you to buy low mileage 2010 non CPO model with good carfax history and spend couple thousand for 3-5 years extended warranty. You easily can find it. Here is the example :

Good Luck.

Welcome to the forum. We are friendly most of the time. ;-)

You aren't going to find a GL in your price range without going to older models. Also, since you sound like you might be new to MB, you should realize that maintenance and parts/repairs are spendy just like the sticker price. I know in my personal experience I had quite the shock for the first few repair bills. I'm the type that does my maintenance and repairs done by the dealer when under warranty. Just some friendly advice.
