Backup Reverse Camera Retrofit (w/ Pics)
I searched all possible options to retrofit a backup camera for my 07 GL:
1) Swap out the HU w/ the ones that has integrated BT, SD, Nav, MP3. Problem is it doesn't support my optical sub and that you would have to get a new amp
2) Swap out w/ OEM HU from Mercedes. Problem is new ones aren’t compatible w/ the older bus
3) Plug-in modules (http://tvandnav2go.com/) (turn down your speakers! LOL)
I chose #3 because of its simplicity and low cost.
Here’s my breakdown of parts:
- Pioneer ND-BC4 Universal Rear View Camera ( )
- Radio Shack: Standard automotive relay; spool of electrical wires
- TV and Nav2go Video Modifications (http://www.tvandnav2go.com/mercedes_...ifications.php)
Wire the reverse light to a relay which draws 12V to the camera and the video board. Run the video cable to the top of the head liners to the front passenger side. This is easier than I thought as there’s a seam between the top of the headliner and the sides…just simply slip the wires between the seams.

couple of Questions
- any pictures of wire harness use used to connect to command.
- any pictures of wires in back of camera
- any link for wire you bought from radio shack. how big wire is needed.

Here's some info and images that may help:
1) Wiring to Command: The kit comes with lots of wires, but all you need is the power harness and the harness that goes from the board (included in the TVandNav2Go kit) to NAVI (IN)
2) Images on Command modification. You can actually ship the Command to the company and they can install for you gratis. It's pretty simple IMO.
3) Wires in back of camera depends on the camera you will be using. The Pioneer has a set of wires (video signal and +12V) that connects to a DC filter/heat sink. The +12V input connects to the relay that is triggered from the reverse light.
4) Radio shack wires should be similar gauge as the rest of the wiring from the kit. Don't know the exact gauge, but take it to RS and compare. The relay is standard 12VDC/30A SPST Automotive Relay (Catalog #: 275-226)
