Price Negotiations for GL450

Need help with GL450 2012 pricing @ NJ
All,
Very nice thread and lot of information to digest on car price negotiation. I am looking to purchase GL 450, initially I was looking for certified low mileage cars. Price didn't seem very attractive.
I just started negotiation on new GL450 and here is one of the quote I got:
Options: P2 pkg, Keyless Go, Parktronic, Blind Spot Assist, Heated Steering Wheel, Burl Walnut Trim , Running Board and Rear DVD Pre-Wiring.
MSRP $72,600
Sale Price: $63,279
He is offering about 12.5% from MSRP price. This excludes taxes and fees.
Now, my wife want Rear Entertainment added. That is another $1,900.
Please suggest if I should negotiate further. Thanks!

mblover2012 - yes, you should negotiate further, if you are looking at a 2012 GL450. However, you may not be able to do so on a new 2013 model.
Also, based on your MSRP quote and the other options you highlighted, I don't think you are getting the P2 package ... perhaps you are looking at a 2013 model or getting a 2012 GL350? You may want to double check the specs on the targeted car just to be sure. I say this only b/c my 2012 GL450 has the same key specs as what you are looking at, except mine has P1 vs. P2, and my MSRP was $72,600 on a car with a metallic exterior. If you are indeed getting the P2 package along with the other options on a 2013 GL450 at that MSRP, you are already getting a better deal right off the bat than I did based on the MSRP alone! However, if you are looking at a 2012 GL450 with any metallic exterior, the MSRP for such a car with the options you listed should be at least $73,510.
Finally, if I remember correctly, the cost of the Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) option, if factory installed, is $1,950 -- however, I don't know what the charge would be for the dealership to install that option for you separately (unless your $1,900 quote is what the dealership told you). That said, your net increase in cost should only be $1,780 for a factory installed RSE unit, b/c the car you are looking at already has the pre-wiring "worth" $170.
On the other hand, if you want a car off the lot with the RSE unit and all of your other options already installed (and I'm assuming P1 vs. P2), your MSRP should be at least $74,550 ... you should at least target the same sale price (of $63,279) but with the RSE unit included -- that would get you to more than 15% off from 12.84% off.
Let me know if you need any further clarification on my thoughts.
Good luck.

Wait for the 2013's to hit the lot. Drive the 2013. You may think it is worth a little more. If not, by the time the 2013's are sitting, they will be really pushing to get rid of the 2012's.

I don't believe there will be enough supply of the 2013's to get a deal on them this year. So if getting a deep discount is important, negotiate on a 2012.
You might want to consider aftermarket adapters and tablets for the rear seats. They would be cheaper than $1900 and more versatile.

BTW, what you mean by less 5% and less 4% at the end. What kind off discount that is?

Diesel vs gas has the following things to consider. You will lose horsepower with diesel. You will gain significant mpg. You will gain in resale value down the road, these are in more demand. Depending upon where you live diesel is a little more expensive than 90+ octane gas, but you will make it up in mileage in most cases.
In your case you are paying $400 less for the diesel and also adding RSE to the configuration? You also are getting almost 18% off of stick? Sounds like a no-brainer to me. I'd jump on it fast because at that price it won't last long.

Anyone has the 2012 GL qoute for Spetember?
I asked some south CA dealers at the end of August, they can offer 15K off MSRP for the GL350/450. Now I when i ask them, they can offer only 12K-13K off. What happens there? Do you know?
New month, MB stop the incentive?

Wow great deal on the BTC, tempted to trade in the ML320. I haven't leased, but do you know if this would be a desirable option right now on a 2012? Assuming BTC would be better with higher residual?

Hi fellow members,
Just a quick update ... I've received a few quotes, but not for the same exact car, and not encouraging me to pull the trigger just yet.
1 - One dealer offered a GL450 for sale at a $6,801 discount based on a $72,600 MSRP (incl dest chrg) ... that was basically 9.5% off. They are trying to talk me into leasing it ... based on a $65,799 sale price, 24 months, 7,500 miles/yr ... residual value of $52,272 ... with two leasing payment options: (a) $785.85 per month and $2,731.55 upfront, based on a money factor of 0.0014 or (b) $18,659.30 one-time all-in payment, based on a money factor of 0.0007. For some reason, and since I'm not a leasing expert (but I am good with numbers), I don't any of these options are good (nevermind) great deals.
Any thoughts what reasonable lease terms would be? I heard that dealers in general kill you on "excess wear and tear" at the end of the lease ... I'm concerned about that since I have a 2.7 year old daughter!
2 - Another dealer is offering an $8,070 discount based on a MSRP of $74,020 ... let's call it 11.03% off. Still not quite a five-figure discount, but I think (hope) it's achievable. If this offer already includes any Conquest $$$, then I'm thinking of countering at $61,000, and if that's not acceptable to the dealer, I'm considering proposing other options, like how about $63,000 and throw in a 4 or 5/yr pre-paid maintenance plan? Has anyone done this before? Are those plans worth it?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!!
