Engine missing at 1000 to 1500rpm when cold

320 cdi 2007 in a GL
The engine misses at 1000 to 1500rpm when cold. I thought it was a worn accelerator pot, I swapped it out but no change.
The engine idles perfectly and thunders along very well.
Any suggestions as to what it might be?

dynamic data needs to be logged via das and observed for problems.

a low rpm hesitation can be many things.
