Best way to clean the chrome running board?

Hi Peeps,
The chrome running boards are getti dirty especially around the rubber grommets. Anyone find a way to clean these boards quickly and efficiently?

Mine aren't chrome, but more of a brushed stainless. As such, I use a stainless steel cleaner and a toothbrush. The cleaner that I use comes in a small plastic can and looks like Comet, except it's blue and white. Only takes a few minutes per side and removes the small rust stains.

They are actually solid aluminum with the rubber studs. You can use two methods to clean them. Aluminum wheel cleaner or an old tooth brush and chrome cleaner. I've used both with great results. For real deep cleaning I've used a scotchbrite pad and the paste cleaner. This will get the tar specs off too.

The boards seem to collect just about everything, sometimes too much stuff.
