Battery drain cause electrical problems

On my 2008 Gl320 (85k miles)Dead battery was replaced with new one from Interstate. Weird sound, constantly clicking relley - it was airmatic leveling. I've removed the fuse #53(msg.on dash-Airmatic malfunction). No clicks but still battery drainage. Also have another issue. Cluster panel doesn't fade after I lock the car, and every 10sec.all warning lights flash. I've removed fuse #55 and no msg's on dash board and no problem with that any more. What do I need to do for normal work of all fuses without msg's of malfunction's.

Found some water in battery room about one gallon.

Tailgate not working

Today I got another problem. My tailgate stopped working. When I would push the remote lift button, it would disengage the latch but not lift. Then the latch would re-engage and shut tight.
Found a "motor" under the spare tire.
This Trunk Lid Hydraulic Pump was corroded. Because some how water has been accumulating around it.
How to test this unit? Any ideas?

I took it out of the box, it was wet

You need to find out where the water is coming from before you replace the unit. Hopefully someone else had same problem and knows what needs to be done.

How to find out where the water is coming from?

Take a water hose and shoot water under the car and over the car on the outside and keep looking. There has to be water coming in from somewhere unless you were hauling water bottles and one leaked. On the outside of the car in the top and side areas concentrate the water spray where a seam or chrome trim piece may be or on a roof rack . On the underside try where a seam may be. Good luck

Wow, that's crazy, basically I have to remove all seats, carpet. 😂
Maybe I'll just explode my MBox 😈

If you have the area where the water accumulated just leave everything and try the water test . You may get lucky and see a stream of water coming from a certain direction. Once you see the direction start removing or just go to that outside direction and seal the area. Then start all over again to make sure you have sealed the leak.

Still looking for the leak in my car, I pulled the 3rd row seat and side cover panel and saw nothing. Will try water hose later.
Today I tested the motor (for tailgate ) and it's working! But red buttons on the gate don't light up, doesn't lift nor pull it shut. The other one that locks the car works, but only by locking the doors, not by automatically shutting it closed. How can I test the module for the lift gate, instead of just buying a new one? the actual red tailgate button on my 08 Gl320 went bad and caused a battery drain on my truck, mercedes at first thought it was the module but it turned out to be the switch in the tailgate and the switch worked the entire time normally but was somehow malfunctioning and draining the battery

i did not have the water issues so your stuff sounds more complicated

i know the ML is very prone to have water leaks around the rear taillights and that the rear sam had to be replaced on a lot of them
think there was even a recall on this

just found a major leak on my E Class this week and it turned out to be the 3rd/upper brake light in the trunk lid, when diagnosing this my mechanic mentioned mercedes has a lot of problems with leaks on this part and even the trucks do it too

if it was me i would start by checking the tail lights and the 3rd brake light

What was the final outcome on this?

I have the exact thing going on.

One day my tailgate motor stops but can open manually and then 2-3 days later my battery goes dead and my Air Valve Block is trying to engage even with car is off. I believe this valve air block engaging and shutting down every 10 seconds is killing my batter.

I just had the valve air block replaced w ith a new one $400 and still the problem, so I googled GL450 Battery drain and found this. I have the exact same symptoms.

There is no issue with the airmatic struts.
