Considering 08 GL450. Any thoughts?

Good morning all and Happy Fourth:

I am considering the purchase of an '08 GL450 with 109,000 miles. Overall the car seems to be in very good condition, drives as I would expect, and Carfax shows complete regular service through approximately 80K mi at M-B dealers. After that, the car was serviced by an independent shop and the carfax just indicates "Service Performed" bu no specific information.

This would be my wife's daily driver and our travel car, so long term reliability is a major consideration. That said, are there any issues with these cars long-term that I should be aware of? One item of particular interest is the air-ride system. I know that these can be troublesome in some older vehicles (not neccesarily M-B) and expensive to maintain and service.

Any thoughts or caveats would be greatly appreciated. We have been very happy without CLK320, and hope to continue the experience with this new vehicle.

Thank you in advance.
Eric

A quick search on this forum will give you all the information you need. The airmatic is not all that expensive or troublesome to maintain. It is more expensive than a shock and spring system but not unbearable.

I think I saw on one of your other posts that you had over 200K miles on your GL. Can you provide some general feedback on your experience with this car? I am hoping to achieve the same if I follow through with this purchase.

Thanks.

Love my GL. It is still as tight as the day I purchased the car. It's been the best car I've owned to date. I would like a newer GL, V8 bi-turbo, but I just can't bear to get rid of this one with over 200k miles.
