unless you intend to do lots of high speed repetitive breaking - i would advise not to bother as you will not see improvement of brake distance or brake feel

What CAN be done to improve brake feel and performance? I've upgraded rotors and pads and there was a slight improvement. But everytime I drive the SUV (it's my wife's, I drive a sedan) I have to get acclimated to the poor stopping distance/feel/performance.

short of replacing your brake hoses with high-performance brake line hoses ("last mile" to caliper) - not much else. i am sure a different master cylinder and revisited abc unit will make big difference, but those are not aftermarket options for the x164 chassis.

remember, you are driving a 5000 pound truck...

I've searched for braided brake hoses but haven't had any luck. Like you, most say that's the only sensible option. Anyone have any luck locating upgraded/steel braided brake hoses for our vehicles?

You won't gain anything by going with ss braided lines lol. To get better braking you need bigger brakes plain and simple.

better breaking? - correct. you are not going to gain anything with braided hoses.

better pedal feel with braided lines? absolutely. but i dont believe they exist for the x164. the oem should be measured and a generic braided hoses can be then picked up.

I doubt anyone driving a gl anything would see an improvement in pedal feel from going with ss lines. You would have to be doing narly corners etc to get the fluids temps up high to really notice. The same could be experienced by simply replacing the old rubber that in some of these cars are almost ten years old plus how often do people really replace there brake fluid etc

We've got a similar PKG for the G Wagen, precisely because the factory calipers look terrible. Check it out: http://speedriven.wpengine.com/2016/...e-upgrade-pkg/ I don't think it would work on the GL, but if you get 2-3 other people interested we'd make an upgrade PKG.

Can you send me some pictures of the kit you have??

also: I was looking at the 2006-2011 W164 ML63 Brakes It Doesn't Look Like its the Same caliper in your picture. see the picture I attached for example..

so I understand you used the Rotor 390mm From W163 ML63

which model 6pot AMG Caliper did you use?

and also what setup did you use for the Rear Rotor & Caliper?

thank you
