MB GL 450 Extnded warranty

I own MB GL 450 with 32K miles on it. Warranty expiring in 2 months. Should I purchase extended warranty offered by the dealer for 4 years or 100K miles @ $4200?

Please, advice it is worth that amount if I plan to keep my car for another 4 years.

Thanks in advance

Raj

I was in your situation 3 years ago, nearly exactly - GL450, 32k miles, 3 years old, and the warranty was around the same cost. I bought it. I had to have the navigation head unit replaced ($2400, we paid zero)...but then when my front air struts began to inevitably fail, I found in the fine print that the warranty specifically excluded the front air struts. This was a "platinum" level warranty that covered everything except consumables...and in very fine print, the front air struts.

there are 14 months left on the warranty and my wife recently hit a lamp post; she's fine, and the damage seemed fairly minor, but GEICO declared the car a total loss. I'm now in the process of getting the unused fraction of what I paid for the warranty refunded - it's not easy but I'm stubborn and it is possible.

I've found that warranties for the most part break even. More like a savings account for future repairs. YMMV of course. We had them on our previous two cars, but didn't get one for our GL.
There might be multiple small problems, but the big problems (intake manifold, transmission) typically will pop up >100k miles. The smaller stuff like rear hatch latch, cam sensors, etc. shouldn't add up to that much. Is your truck outside the M273 idle gear range? Even if you were within the range, many warranties only go to a certain amount, which wouldn't cover the full re-build anyway. If you are within the range, get it, but make sure there isn't a cap on it.
