2007 GL450 Airmatic randomly drops while driving
First of all, I love this forum already. Tons of great info! I bought my first MB 2 days ago. It's an '07 GL450 with 98k miles. The previous owner replaced the compressors and airbags in the rear just before I bought it. When I get in the vehicle, I have to push the "raise" button for the back to inflate. As I'm driving, it randomly lowers itself. Apparently after I park, it lowers as well. Any help on this issue is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Since compressor and rear air bags were just replaced, we can assume that there is nothing wrong with them (unless bad new parts).
Does both rear drop equally? Sounds like Valve distributor related issue. It is a small box like part located at top of air compressor. It receives air pressure line from compressor and then lines get out of it and go to each air strut.

Best practice is to get it diagnosed first. Though, it might not always be cost effective as diagnosis could be expensive than the part itself when you are paying for it. But that's another discussion.

Yes, they both lower equally. As you are driving, the display actually says "lowering." Maybe all four wheels are being lowered and I don't realize it. Maybe this is a computer or electrical glitch?
Should you have to inflate the system each time you enter the vehicle?
Thank you for the response!

Lets take a step back. If display says lowering, then computer is asking system to "lower". Which is normal once you are driving >40 mph in raised mode. System doesn't want you to drive in raised mode faster than 40mph as it destabilizes the vehicle. If it lowers and comes to "normal" height, and is not too low (fender is not almost touching the tires), then everything is ok.
No, you should not inflate system every time. Computer should do that automatically to a normal height.
I guess since this vehicle is new to you, you might have to familiarize yourself with low, normal and raised height. Maybe it is not a problem at all. My response above is for low rear that are below normal riding height.

For OP, this link might be helpful to look at pictures for different ride heights.

Yeah, it's all very new to me. I know if I don't raise the vehicle...the ride is very, very bouncy and comes from the back. The back also seems very low when that happens. I guess I'll need to take it to an expert and let them check it out. I'm convinced something is not right with the way it rides. Thanks for the input!

Haha. I just couldn't pass up the moment to insert a good dicaprio catch me if you can line.
Bouncy is good. It's when the car is extremely low and slammed almost where there is a problem, usually leaking or level sensors.
And if you are pressing the button and it automatically lowers itself at speed (60mph); you are more than likely putting the car in the raised setting and all is good.
If you still think theres a problem, have it checked over by an indy and ask them to reset the airmatic height.

I really do appreciate the feedback and responses. It's probably something that just needs a minor tweaking. I'll have it checked out by an expert. It sounds like you may be correct.
