2009 GL 450 Suspension Sound
Hello!
I own a 2009 GL450 with 145K and have a mild knocking sound in the front end. Sound like it's coming more from the middle then the sides. Mostly over bumps but not always. I am not a mechanic but I jacked it up and took a look and it looks like two of the bushings are bad, in what I believe is the control arms (or maybe they are called the guide arms)? I have the tools and motivation but would like to confirm what the part I need is and how big of a job it is. I looked on YouTube but cannot find a video specific to my car. I looked up control arm bushings but there are 8 different kinds. This one is in the far back of that triangular bar. Help. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...56d08e4a60.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...7e1ad762da.jpg |
yes, those are control arm bushings. rear-inner to be exact.
The best and easy route is to change the whole control arm as new one comes with new bushings. You can change individual bushings - cheaper but difficult / time consuming. If paying for the labor, preinstalled is cheaper if doing yourself, changing individual bushings is cheaper but it depends on how much your time is worth. |
