Trunk will not close

Hi everyone!

I have a 2009 GL320. Recently my trunk will not close. It opens perfectly fine and when I press the close button it makes the beeping sound but doesn't close. If I close it by hand it doesn't suck it in, if I close it a little harder then it closes properly but I would still get the trunk open warning on my cluster. It also drains the battery over night, I took out fuse 40 which is for the trunk but it is still draining the battery but not at such fast pace. Before if I would try to unlock it in the morning it would not even unlock but after taking out fuse 40 I can at least unlock the doors automatically and then jump start it.
I have tried cleaning the latch and hinges with WD40, I have checked the hydraulic pump it looks fine and the fluid is up to the mark, I have also tightened all the screws just to be sure but nothing seems to work.
I have searched around the forums but I can not see anyone having a similar problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

your pump piston is worn out and not building pressure. on 09s it is about their time

there is also an update for the rear sam that might or might not fix your battery drainage.

Suction

Thank you Alx. I will try to see if I can get the pistons or else change the whole pump.
Also it makes sense that the trunk won’t close due to the worn pistons but why won’t it suck the trunk to latch properly?

I also have a 2009 GL320 with a similar issue. It always opens fine but not for closing. After couple of tries with the remote or button the door will eventually close properly. I did a scan with the Carly app. and it says the following: REDC - Rear-end door closing control module (MB: 1648209526) Fault: Component N121/1 (Rear-end door closing control module) has a malfunction. There is an internal electrical fault. Code: A24E49. I probably have to replace the rear SAM at some point.
I think you might have a more severe case if it doesn't want to close at all.

There are two adjustment rubber plugs on the frame side of the vehicle halfway up just above the tail lights. I always turn them to pop out more during winter so the tailgate would close properly.

I'll just tell you the stupidest thing

When I do that via the close button with the lock icon, it beeps and doesn't close. I realized that in order to use that button, you need to have the key with you.
You key fob battery might be weak if your vehicle is equipped with keyless go.
if not, please totally ignore this comment.

I have read that on several forums butI could not be sure on where these plugs exactly are. It would be really good if you could sen me some photos or perhaps a video in that way I can exactly know what I have to look for. Thanks in advance!

I can understand if keyfob battery is low but why would it not close with the button on the tailgate or the one on the driver side door. Because it opens fine using these buttons?

I hope that is not the case but I have tried everything that I could with my little knowledge and all your help. I guess I would have to take it to the dealer so they can diagnose it. fingers crossed hope it is not a massive bill.

Des anyone know where I can find the fuse for trunk latch. Fuse 40 in the trunk is for the pump but after pulling it out the latch still works. What could be the fuse for that because I believe it is also draining the battery. I can probably take out the fuses until I get the trunk fixed.
