EvoXR retrofit help....

2010 GL550.

I purchased an additional pair of the same head lamps off Ebay (Used).

I've attached pictures of my progress so far but have a few questions I'm having trouble finding answers to

1) The projectors I purchased are the EvoXR. What's the difference between those and the Evo 2.0s?

2) While separating the lense from the lamp, I was unable to remove ALL the factory glue. Does the factory glue need to be completely removed before I apply the new glue?

3) I've attached a picture of a peice I broke while removing the old lense. Can I just gorllia glue it back together?

4) I've researched alot about the EvoXR projectors. Some say use fresnel lenses over the clear lenses. Anyone have suggestions? I've also read to purchase ZKW-R lenses. Any experience with either of these?

Any and all input would be greatly appreciated.

1. I used the 2.0s. I’m not sure about all the differences, but I think the beam pattern changed on the 2.0s to emphasize the hot spot more.

2. You don’t need to remove the original butyl, but should smooth it out when it is soft. You need to heat the lights up again when you reseal, so just smooth it out then if it needs it. If you’re using retro rubber to reseal, it needs to get stretched a little to thin it out to make it fit better in the channel.

3. I forget the details, but you have to modify those things slightly. IIRC, the legs aren’t long enough to mount on the new projectors, so I cut them off and used some RTV to hold them in place.

4. I’m pretty sure mine had clear lenses, so no input here.

Good luck - my GL was my first retrofit, and it was pretty straightforward.

I just did the project last week. I did post results in this forum. I just combined the videos today that I made last week. I uploaded it on youtube. It's a crappy video and I don't know where did sound go. Maybe some AAC codec issue. But I don't have time to fix it LOL. I can still be a guide to let someone know what they are getting into.

Please see my answers below to your questions.
Good Luck

Mine said EvoX R 2.0 but still required drilling three holes.

2) While separating the lense from the lamp, I was unable to remove ALL the factory glue. Does the factory glue need to be completely removed before I apply the new glue?
No, I didn't apply any glue. Just reused the old one and used silicon to seal it all around afterwards.

YES

I just used the clear lenses that came with it.

Any and all input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all for the awesome feedback!!

I'm using the morimoto glue that comes in a rolled thin box.

I highly recommend Lightwerkz as they have helped me with a lot of questions via email instanly.

While browsing Lightwerkz website, I observed a retrofit (x164) they completed for a costumer. In the turn signals they used a white/amber switchback strip tube. I emailed them and asked where I could find them and how to install them. They emailed me instantly with a link to the strips and the size length. They stated they used fishing line to install them. I ordered them from Lightwerkz and they should arrive within a few days. I've attached a screenshot of the x164 retrofit they did.

Again, thanks for any and all input as all are welcome. I'll definitely post pictures and videos of my finished retrofit.

Excellent video!!!!! My progress so far is not even close to what you did. It helped out a ton!

Off topic. Your paint looks amazing. I just did paint correction on my white GL550 and I used Chemical Guys Jet Sealant last night. Looks like a brand new and no little stress scratches from automatic car washing.
