Difference between 2007/2008 and 2010/2011 GL550
Hi everyone,
I am planning to buy an X164 GL550 used vehicle within next couple of months with around >200k km (125k mi) and would appreciate if someone could pinpoint for me if there were any drastic differences in parts/electronics quality between the 2007/2008 and 2010/2011 models according to your knowledge/experience?
If you have a link or resource where I could find these details would be great as well.
Judging by your experience with and access to cheaper parts and a great indy mechanic, would it be possible to get another 5-7years 100k miles out of this vehicle?

Engine and things like that are the same, 5.5L M273 V8 with 4MATIC these are pretty reliable, but you’re probably gonna run into airmatic and maybe electrical issues but i haven’t experienced the electrical ones yet... But there are a lot of cosmetic differences:
2008: pre-facelift and everything looks outdated.
2009: All GLs got a facelifted interior (mostly the front of the front cabin (i.e. COMAND NTG 2.5 infotainment)
2010: Exterior facelift, ugly mirrors though. 550 wasn't facelifted in the front for whatever reason... Interior ambient lighting became a thing on vehicles with premium leather package. Front headrests updated.
2011/12: Mirrors were facelifted on all mainly to acquire blind spot assist. GL550 front bumper was updated. All rear headrests updated.
To be honest if I were you I’d opt for the 20011&12.
