2013 GL450 battery replacement

1. On Friday, I couldn't start the car, called AAA, the guy said alternator is good but battery is going bad after testing, gave my a jump and I drove home. Only until Wednesday I started the car to take it to the mechanic and the car started no problem with no jump, is that possible if the battery was bad and needed a jump 5 days before that?

2. Took it to a MB specialized mechanic and he said that the passenger seat needs to be removed to change the battery. Is that correct? I thought you can replace it by moving the seat forward.

Thank you,

2013 GL 450, 52K miles.

Depends, I suppose, on how much you drove the car and what kind of charge the battery accepted.

Battery can be removed either way - but it only takes a couple minutes to remove the seat and it makes the job easier. I wouldn't be too hard on them for that.

I see, got it thanks. The car has been driven for short distances and not too often, that could explain it.

It is MUCH easier to replace the battery by removing the passenger seat. 4 torx socket screws (size E12 as I recall), one at each corner. Just don't disconnect the cable under the seat with the metal silver housing (SRS - Safety Restraint System [seatbelt]) lest you have an OBD scanner that can reset the SRS malfunction warning.

Replacing the battery without removing the seat is awkward and cumbersome. Getting the angle right to pry the battery out is a pain.. doable, but a pain. With the seat removed, it comes straight out using both battery handles..

I replaced the battery on my 2013 ML350. It was very easy. The seat moves up and out of the way. I will mention that you will still need to reset some modules. After replacement my tailgate would no longer open automatically. My indy did the reset for $50.
