How-to video: GL350 Installing an oil catch can (provent 200)

Finally got around to doing this install guys. Pretty straight forward with this truck. Of course its not the perdiest with the 1" hose but it doesn't bother me as long as it works. What is everyone else using for catch cans?

This is a great addition to a diesel and another nice video, Eddie. I added the smae PV200 a year or so ago at the same time I replaced the intake runners. Because of the limited oil capacity that the PV200 holds, I routed the drain fitting to a secondary catch can (basically just an empty can) and then I'll drain it from there.

Yes my half inch hose is wayy too long so it should hold a little extra. I'm going to check it again in a few 100 km. Thanks!

I have a 2009 GL320 and did the same thing. I replaced the crankcase pressure valve and installed an oil catch can. As you can see in the pictures the rubber membrane in the valve is completely destroyed. I had a little bit of a difficult time to get the valve out as mine has a bracket on top with electrical connectors. I had to remove the top connector and clip to access the bolt underneath. I ended up using 1/2" heater hose and some brass elbows to connect to the catch can. Not sure if it can handle the heat and oil down there but it works for now.

Draining... I don't have a ton of miles on mine yet, but so far, I'm draining about 6 ounces every 2,000 miles (statute). You'll get a handle on how often you have to drain, as well. Just a side note, that 1/2" hose doesn't hold as much as we might think. For every foot of hose, it only holds a little over one ounce. This is assuming the hose is "downhill" from the PV200 for it's entire length since if there's any part of the hose that is above the bottom of the PV200, the holding capacity stops there and the PV200 will start to back up. You probably already know that - mentioning it just in case.

Edvaru... Yup, that's exactly what my old CCV valve looked like, as well. The "rubber" had turned to hard plastic and deformed. Concerning heater hose... I probably wouldn't worry about the heat too much, but heater hose isn't rated for petroleum. In fact, looking closely at your pic of the bronze elbow, it looks like the hose is already cracking.

On my ram 1500 I've had half inch clear reinforced hose (cheap stuff) on the bottom. It's basically filled with oil it's whole life and it's still holding up. You'd be surprised what holds up. It's the heat plus oil that really deforms the hose. There's also the vacuum pressure on these trucks being so close to the turbo. I would think heater hose would hold up pretty good its stiff enough I think.

Eddy.
