GL350 Won't Start and Odd Electronics
Originally thought that the diesel gelled, as it's been sub-zero for quite sometime here and the vehicle hasn't moved for some time. But, it did warm up today and it won't even try to turnover and I'm getting some weird electronic things happening, so I'm assuming it needs a new battery, but wanted some opinions. Please check out both videos and give me your thoughts.
Maybe the car is just possessed. I found it interesting the clock went backwards in the second video. Any suggestions on batteries or ones I should stay away from? I'll just replace both if it is the battery. Thank you in advance! Video 1: Video 2: |
Put it in maintenance mode to see what the battery voltage is. Looks like low battery voltage weirdness.

Also, can't lock the car, from the interior door, exterior handle, nor fob. |
Jump start?
if it jump starts, its your battery (or a bit rarely, alternator ) Backward clock movement also indicates bad battery. Any (H8) Agm would work. There are only two manufacturers. I had gotten mine from advance auto. Do change accessory battery too while you are at it. Its cheap like 13 dollars from Amazon |
I didn't watch the videos - but will later on, just for fun to see the clock going backwards! But, as mentioned, 10.8V is way low. Any car (or boat, etc) that is largely computer dependent (there's many of them) will do all sorts of wonky things when the voltage is low. Cold weather also saps power, making starting even harder - especially compression starting. How old is the battery? You may just need to charge it. How long did it sit? If it was just 3 or 4 weeks, or so, it should have been fine.

Try charging it first and repeat. If it consistently dips below 11 then replace it.
there’s been other discussion as to which AGM battery manufacturer makes the best ones - MB OEM is Varta, and these seem to have the longer service life. the clock is running backwards because it’s resetting. You can get this cool special effect; without suffering a bad battery, by changing time zones on your Command unit. |
Thank you all.
I've never changed the battery, so it is at least 6 years old, but assuming it is the original at 8.5-years old...car is a October 2012 vehicle. I'm most likely going to just buy a MB OEM battery. A dealer in Jersey has it for $206 and Aux for $39. I'm going to see if my dealer will match, but not holding my breath. Worst case I can pick them up next time I head into the city. |

I've also got a 2012 and it's still on the original battery. I live in Finland, where it isn't exactly warm (hasn't been above 20 degrees F in a month.) The vehicle starts every time, but I find if I mess around (like reading codes with my scan tool for more than 10-15 minutes) it is difficult to start the next time. I proactively charge the battery in those cases and so far so good. I have to imagine that it's going to be due for replacement within the next 12 months. I concur with everybody that you're due for a battery and that is the cause of your issues above.

So I picked up a battery and aux battery from Mercedes on Thursday and changed it on Friday. Definitely was the battery.
Unfortunately, the Command DVD will not play or eject any of the 6 discs. Any suggestions? Radio works, nav works, bluetooth works, etc. |
