1993 SL500 & 2010 GL450
Ac started to act up, what to check 1st ?
I have a 2010 GL450, 135k, AC has started to blow warmish air on the drivers side, still coolish air on the passenger side but nothing like it should be.
Only thing I've done so far is checked the freon level and topped it up a little but still not blowing anywhere near as cold as it should be.
Anyone point me in the direction of a AC thread on what to check first/second/third etc

Using XENTRY go into the climate control module and look at all of the temperatures and pressures to see what is happening. If you don’t have XENTRY use another scanner to see if codes are active or stored.
Look at the refrigerant hoses underhood to see if any are slowly leaking at the metal-to-rubber crimp.

I can hear the compressor turn on with no problem.
Thoughts?

I had exact same symptoms. Topping off freon didn't help.
it's time to put in a new compressor and drier. That's the only solution.
compressors and starters in GLs die a slow death.

I Had the system evacuated, vacuum pulled and recharged but its still the same, blowing warmish air.
Next job is i'm going to replace the compressor and dryer and recharge it, hoping that solves the problem.

I got 100% warm air on the driver side, but the passenger side blows cold for 5 mins or so then goes hot and keeps repeating that cycle. I'm taking it to my Indy tomorrow for a look.

@simongunz what does a XENTRY diagnosis on the HVAC module tell you? All pressures, temperatures and operating conditions are displayed with in/out of spec status indicators.

Quick update on this one. Had the compressor replaced last week and A/C is colder than it's ever been! Now it seems like the compressor was slowly failing cause the air is almost uncomfortably cold now 🥶😂
Repair was $800 at my Indy.

Often I think it is only the control valve on the compressor. I changed my compressor and when I pulled it out had a strong electrical smell. It was the valve. My failure was gradual and oddly enough drivers was working more than passenger but our car is rhd

This is probably not going to help much if the compressor is the culprit, but I'll post.
Last year my AC was working fine. I have 3-zone climate control. All zones functioned well at the time. A few days ago it was hot enough to use the AC. I did not get the same cold air as last year. Had the system checked (hold pressure, hold vacuum) and fully recharged. The indy shop said it had no freon at all. AC is back in action after the visit to the indy.
