Edelmann Elite power steering pump @ rockauto
Wondering if anyone has any feedback/impression on Edelmann Elite power steering pump at rockauto?
They are new pumps instead of remanufactured, and offer a 100-year / 1-million-mile warranty. I ordered a bosch remanufactured PS pump from FCP euro, turned out to be a wrong part. It is missing a o ring groove at the connector to the PS reservoir, as shown in pictures attached (first picture is the Bosch pump, second picture is the pump actually used in GL450 with a o ring groove). https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...417ae63eef.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...9cce072041.jpg |
Does the pump you received actually look like the upper picture? I ask because the entire fitting that goes into the reservoir looks different. There is no place for the o-ring (with a D-shaped profile) to sit.
|
yes the wrong pump is still listed at FCP euro as the pump for GL450, it does not have a groove for the o-ring.
I found this just before taking off the old PS pump. comparison photo attached. old and new. they are different in many aspects. I've sent notice to FCP euro and waiting for them to get back to me. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...9be5bb3bc2.jpg |
Next my options are
Meyle PS pump, $368 at FCP euro, Edelmann Elite PS pump, $150 at rockauto AAE PS pump $174 at rockauto (and many other brand PS pumps at rockauto) Drivestar PS pump, $65 at amazon. OEM pump, $470 at local MB dealer. |
I suspect that fitting is a redesign, sparing you from stretching the ring over the initial step. Is it the same diameter?
|
I did not measure the diameter. but the Bosch one is a remanufactured one with $200 core deposit. maybe it should look the same as the original one
|
The remanufactured Bosch I got a few months ago had the original style fitting.
I am curious what FCP comes back with. If you are so inclined, you might want to contact Bosch about it. |
did a search on bosch auto website, it does not have a power steering pump that fit a 2007 GL450.
It has starters, alternators for a 2007 GL450 though, with direct links to respective amazon page, that's pretty convenient. |
Well, how they slapped German sounding names on Chinesium as a badge of confidence.
|
The Bosch pump is KS01000604 and is available all over the place.
The pictures all have a cap on the fitting. I'd guess that FCP shipped you the wrong part, if their photo does not have the cap. |
MB dealer with great prices
Mercedes-Benz (005-466-22-01-80)$238 let me know and I can hook you up with this dealer. They have just started to get an internet presence and are kicking butt on prices. I have made about 6 orders and all went smooth but 1 … they made it right with a free overnight shipping . |

One other buyer left a review on this pump at Amazon: "Worked great in 2009 GL450, had to double up reservoir oring as it doesn’t come with the sleeve on the end. But works" So this pump might work, but i'd better not to take chances. |

This is the same price as the remanufactured Bosch pump on Rock Auto. Both this dealer and Rock Auto will charge shipping. Rock Auto has a hefty core charge ($175); this dealer for some reason has a much smaller core charge ($26.50), almost small enough to make return shipping not worth it. For some reason, the pump is listed as being for "without speed sensitive power steering". I never heard of the pumps being different; the speed sensitive mechanism is on the steering rack. |
FCP just decided to ship a replacement PS pump to me (Meyle PS pump), which they verified to have the o ring cap.
sounds pretty good, will see how it goes. |

You're probably looking at new. The remanufactured MB pump lists for $339, now $238.

But when i checked my GL450 using Vin de-coder, it shows mine has the speed sensitive power steering speed sensor. |

Yes, all three PS pumps (Bosch, Mercedes, Meyle) at FCP website for 2007 GL450 says "For vehicles without Speed Sensitive Steering (option code 213)".
But when i checked my GL450 using Vin de-coder, it shows mine has the speed sensitive power steering speed sensor. |
