New GL350 picked up

2 Attachment(s)
Picked up our new GL350 on Tuesday. It has the AMG package (only available in Canada) and looks awesome. Drives very nice on our crappy condition roads. It was super windy the other day and the wife said should couldn't even tell there was any wind at all. I was really happy to see that the DEF filler tube is now located with the fuel one. Only disappointments have been that it didn't come with the stop/start function like they were advertising when we placed our order. It also didn't come with the all around camera like advertised, and the speedo is off by around 5% to fast. I think it is because the standard GL350's come with 20" wheels and have a tire diameter of 30.9" and these AMG 21" wheels have a tire diameter of 30.2. I've ordered up some 19" winters that will be 30.9" as well, so it will only be off for half the year at least.

Congrats...very nice looking car.

Does anybody know why AMG package available only in Canada ? What is wrong with US population ? Looks like we don't deserve it :)

Very nice looking car. I am from the states and if they don't come out with the AMG package for the 350 I have to order one from Canada and bring it back home. I will not buy a GL with out the AMG .

I suspect it is so MB can differentiate the 550 from the others, and therefor justify the higher asking price. Previous 550 in USA always had an exclusive fascia/look vs the 350/450.

Previous (W164) model was selling with AMG package in Canada as well and they also have GL550. So what...MB thinks that Canadians are silly and they don't need to differentiate it ? I see no logic in that theory....

I don't recall there ever being an AMG package in US, only an Appearance Package, however I may be wrong. Just stating a fact that you couldn't ever get a 350/450 that had the same appearance as 550 in US. Don't understand the silly Canadian comment.

No, you're not wrong and this is my point. Why we, americans, can't get GL with AMG package like canadians get? I just checked MB of Canada website and AMG package available on both models GL350 and GL450.

I know, I wish we could get it here. After seeing both the new 450 and 550 at the dealer there is really no comparison, the 550 looks great while the 450 is kind of sedate looking. I changed my order from the 450 to the 550 because of that. If an AMG package was available, I would have ordered that and stuck with the 450. This is for my wife, so i dont think she cares, but I do! I have to drive it as well on occasion, so I guess I wont mind the extra HP either.

So you must be the customer that Peter was talking about! Definitely looks nice, I ordered the 450 with Sport pkg also in White.

Just curious, you are missing a bunch of key "standard" features and you are not upset about it??? i.e. 360 camera, and power Easy Entry

In regards to others that say why Canada gets the Sport Pkg, well look at it this way, US has much more flexibility in customizing your ride. In Canada a bunch of options are automatically bundled as standard items. Our base price on the 450 is $75900. When comparing like for like the vehicle will cost more in Canada. We also don't have access to the Active Curve System (suspension body roll control), the Off road pkg, or Designo interior option.

I love the product....just ordered my GL450 ( 3rd one i will have owned ) and yet, can't understand why MB doesn't cater to all of their customers and say... "order what you want!" ....novel customer oriented idea! Excuse me...."Sandy" is causing a disruption!!!

Here's some pictures, assuming I can figure out how to post pictures again. :nix:

The interior is actually darker looking than the photos show. I had to use the flash since it was getting to be low light and it washed it to much grayer than it is.

Looks awesome, Jim! I know it's not why anyone orders it, but the drivers assistance package with distronic, covers the front emblem with a clear dome and I love the look :-). Nice bonus!

Nice MB travel mug too :y

That's an interesting observation. When I went to pick it up I had my wife, my sister in law, and her sister with me. That was an observation they made. They asked how I got the nicer Mercedes logo than the other MB's on the lot had. I personally like it much better too, look richer.

I don't think you'll be disappointed. I'm coming off of cashmere leather and I love the black with the gray stitching. The steering wheel feels like butter. So nice.

Your new GL looks great, Jim. I like the look/style of the 20 inch rims - they are really key to filling out the profile.

Thanks for posting the pictures.

Kind regards

I didnt order the GL, i just went to the Dealer on Election night and knew that this one dealer had the 450 in white. ....well my luck it had sold that morning..so my consolation prize was a Black on Black. P2 fully equipped GL 450. I called EVERY MB dealer in a 100 mile radius and NO LUCK. Either wait a month to 3 months. I couldnt wait any longer. Besides my 5 yr old saw this one and wanted to go home in this one. Now shes part of the family.

***edit*** didnt know we needed to resize pics**

Congrats! It looks very nice. From the outside it's the same as mine, other than gas vs diesel. On the inside we're close, I have heated steering wheel instead of wood, don't have the off road package. Enjoy!

xxGenericSNxx 11-09-2012 12:08 AM

Why do people say fully equipped when it doesn't have every option?

Easy bud. To me fully equipped means it has everything I wanted, not everything I could have ordered. Some might consider fully equipped having the HK audio, some might say that's garbage, it's not fully equipped until you have the B&O system. Some (like me) might say the thing isn't fully equipped until it has heated steering wheel and heated rear seats. Some in Florida might say it's fully equipped without those.

I would guess there's very few that have every possible option.

xxGenericSNxx 11-09-2012 10:00 AM

Ok guess we all just have different definitions of it. I consider fully equipped/ fully loaded / full option to be synonymous and often times abused by dealers as a tool to sell the car. I personally find a fully equipped car to = every single option available. =]

Cool SUV, but I think that is a really cool coffee mug.

Seems to be a market for those coffee mugs. I bought mine at my dealership, but they are available on Amazon.
