Does anyone on here have a Diamond White GL? If so could you post pics. Is is still a bright white or is it more of pearl color?

Diamond White

Its a fairly bright white. It looks a bit more ivory under certain lighting conditions. If you go to the Mercedes site, the exterior shots taken from different locations give a fairly accurate picture of it. (under build you own)

there is a hint of yellow in it, like 3.2% milk versus 1% milk. You can search Google images.

I just picked mine up last week:

It is not a bright white- it's very close to the Escalade's Diamond white, only the quality is substantially better.

A gaggle of MB's
Same Diamond White used on other MB's - FYI the MB Diamond White is intentionally less "pearl" that Pearl White from other manufacturers... also so you know this type of pigment/color component is made by one-single-small Japanese chemical company and the reason why Diamond White is priced $795 higher than other Mercedes metallics.

In the case of body damage with Diamond White - you are BEST served by a Mercedes Certified Collision Center - and one of the primary "test qualifications" is correct matching on Diamond White.

The other thing to know - in the case of minor scratches, rock chips, etc - the non-metallic whites can be color/dab filled quite OK - with the metallic s brush/dab filled really doesn't come out well...

Keep the beat !

My SL is Diamond White, and my GL is Polar White. I much prefer Polar. It's brighter and looks better in any light.

I disagree, Polar white is bland.

Yeah, I've got to agree with you here. Anything painted the same as a bargain basement refrigerator doesn't do it for me. I'm not a white car/truck fan in general but my wife loves it and it's her truck.

Cookstar, why do you need them to re-apply just curious?

I am a big fan of Diamond White, which I have on my E. I didn't think I wanted white at all until i saw Diamond white in person....

Color choice a personal thing, I think Polar white is a great color and I feel diamond white is too girlish for my taste. But like I said it is a personal choice.

I will post pictures of our Polar white with auburn brown interior soon.

any white paint no matter if its Mercedes GL or a go cart will get rail dust embedded in the paint, impossible to get rid of unless you clay bar the entire vehicle and apply wax again. The wax it self lasts a maximum of 6 months. exterior full detail will run minimum $150 each time but realistically much higher than that. Pain protection.. see what I did there? is $600 for 5 years, where I live with the salt and winter you have to reapply the paint protection 3-4 times a year. even if you calculate $100 per detail job in 2 years the paint protection pays for itself.

The only "paint protection" that lasts is clear coat, the paint protection which Mercedes puts on the car for $600 is supposed to last for the life of the vehicle which is a big joke.

Call me crazy cookstar, but I've had numerous white cars, live in rural America and have never had an issue with rail dust, nor had I heard of it before a previous post on this website. Is this a regional thing?

To the original poster... I drove over 400 miles to pick up a Polar White GL that had the options that I wanted. When I arrived, they had a Diamond White with a few options that I had absolutely no need for. Ended up spending about 5K more to get the Diamond White.

There's nothing wrong with Polar White, but it isn't much different from your local delivery van, Directv installer, Sears Van, etc....

Dont think so. its small red dots you see in the paint called "rail dust" I dont live anywhere near a train station so not sure why its called rail dust. You really have to know what to look for to see it. If you run your hand over it after washing the car with soap you can feel it most of the time unless they are really small. sort of a gritty sand paper feel. It takes hours to clay bar a vehicle of this size, you have to go over each of those dots one by one!

"Rail Dust" can be a by-product of rail transport which is used by MB (and other manufacturers) to transport to farther regions. Normally "worse" when vehicle is on lower level nearer rail wheels when brakes are applied. Much discussion about "rail dust" from many different board - on most European brands. Seems to be more of a issue for NorthEast and Canada - and not so much on rail transport to the West Coast for whatever reason. "Some" advise a light wash with 1 part white vinegar to 10 parts water as initial bath - I have not had personal expereince with this issue since truck transport to my area.

Mercedes "Paint Protection" pacakge includes exterior and interior sealant protection using products purchased direct from a DuPont special products division. There are no comparable/direct retail products in the market with same chemical base - exception to that "might" be some leather/material DuPont products sold in the furniture industry. The pricing of this Mercedes package can vary (somewhat widely) but the good thing is followup is direct with your dealer.

The most oft mentioned comparable package is Permaplate - a independent company selling products thru dealers across brands - in the case of Permaplate two distinctions as a "owner": Permaplate adds on a independent damage insurance package - which is claimed directly with Permaplate and approved "repairs" are executed by contract PermaPlate damage repair agents (ie a contract auto upholstery repair guy) - and PermaPlate pricing can be based by the dealer/PermaPlate sort of linked to retail price of the vehicle.
guy).

Frankly - as a exterior and interior sealant - the DuPont products to me seem to be authentic/genuine - and the fact it is a MB brand/dealer product at least gives you direct dealer recourse.

Light interior colors - and new gen "indigo" denim dye transfer is real - "kids" and what they do is "real" - alkali water spots, whether sprinkler systems or dirty rain are "real", bird "poop" is "real", heck accumulated brake/wheel dust is "real" - yes, "rail dust" for some areas is "real" - a lot of "real" things out there.

My GL550 is due in within the month and my dealer sells interior and exterior protection call "TST". My dealer is telling me that it is a local product used my mega dealer group. Of course they like it better than the MB Products and they have all the talking points. It come with a 5 year warranty. Your thoughts please?

I have no experience with that product, sorry. Within our mini-mega we evaluated the products we were using with our other brands, and cross-brand, and frankly for us the MB product came out best for us on cost-performance we looked at.

However, I would suspect the mega-dealer product set probable offer some type of included "accident" or "damage" protection 3rd party coverage..
