Check engine light

My wife's GL350 recently had the CEL come on (only 4000 miles).
Waiting to take it to the dealer...but it just turned off after 2 days...here are my thoughts/questions.
1. Gas cap was tight, so not the issue
2. She put in diesel from a station she doesn't usually use. After the CEL turned on the tank was half full. So, we filled it up a couple days ago with our usual station and 2 days later the CEL turned off. Could it have been the fuel?
3. What type of diesel do you all use? My wife said the stations around us don't have the Ultra-low sulfur (<5ppm?) that the inside of the gas cap recommends. Instead the stations here say (5-15ppm or <20). Does that make sense?
Thank you for your help in advance!

OK….here's what I know, but for the record I have a gasser rather than the diesel: Most likely it was fuel or cap related. I had the light come on…..approx 2 hours after a fuel up at which time I thought the cap came off a little to easily….called Mbrace who said "are there any other messages or warnings?" I said "no" ….. they said, "then the issue is most likely the environmental protection system, which noted a difference in tank pressure, possibly due to loose cap at some point." "the system sometimes will not register that until another fuel up, etc" and the light will take up to 24 hours to reset" "if it goes off…you do not have an issue" It went off….never came back.
Where are you in the 'midwest'? There are 2 things to consider with diesel fuel. I personally haven't seen anyone not have the ultra low sulfur diesel. I believe that is a heavy mandate by the government and applies to all diesels sold. I wouldn't worry about that a bit.
The next thing to consider is biodiesel. Illinois diesel stations predominantly have 11% biodiesel. This is diesel made from soybeans instead of fossil fuel. Minnesota has a mandate of 20% biodiesel in the summer months, but it has yet to go into effect. I'm not sure what the case is with other states in the midwest, but being farm country there are lobbyists pushing state laws. Your warranty says it must be 5% or less.
Some manufacturers (e.g VW and Audi) are waiving the 5% warranty stipulation for people in impacted states. I have yet to hear that MB has done this. I've written to my local congressman asking how they can allow a vehicle to be sold to the uneducated consumer which state law causes the warranty to be voided?
If I am correct - and franklyt in these particular trouble areas pumps are not clearly marked - any fuel over 10% biodiesel can become a long term issue for you - and NOT covered by MB warranty.
Please let us know..

I hadn't thought of asking mbrace.
Thanks for the info so far. Please let me known if you have any other thoughts.

Anyone heard of that? Should I be worried to have that kind of problem after just about 4500 miles?
Yeah….I've heard of that kind of thing before…not specifically MB but its not uncommon for those sensors to fail …. I had a new Jeep Grand Cherokee and had that failure with less mileage. Thing is all of those environmental sensors are very sensitive to fuel quality, air temp, air quality , you name it…if they are the slightest bit out of calibration….boom! I don't think you have a think to worry about…..the system did its job, told you that something wasn't right.
