Oops, our GM put 1,000 miles on the GL63
Would you consider this a new car??
I think of those first 1,000 miles as very precious and important on breaking the car in. What do you all think?
I was pissed to hear of this right when I was about to finalize the deal.
Am I overreacting?

I think the deal is fair with the maintenance package ...
But also wanna know if this was a bait and switch routine... Promised you a new car with 0 miles and all of a sudden this car appears with 1000 miles, there are a lot of details missing from your story here as you can clearly see... Was this car off the lot? Was it online listed with lower miles? Did you ORDER this car????
1000 miles ain't bad ... You'll be fine ... Check to see if it's been titled before
But let's also be honest... This is a shady dealer behaving like this

It is a car off their lot. It hasn't been titled and they swear the owner of the dealership (and he owns many other dealerships) drove it around.
Does any of that change what decision you'd make?
I'm getting about $10k off MSRP which includes my $2k fleet.
Thoughts?

It's a dealer that's 200 miles away so I couldn't see the car. Mileage isn't listed online, but it is listed as new. They told me about he mileage after I gave them my deposit over the phone with an "oh by the way..." return call.

Have you done due diligence and shopped around? If so, and you're getting the AMA discount then I would take it... These are hard to find ... Can you order one with the same incentives and discounts?
I wouldn't worry now about the 1000 miles ... It's listed as new and you have a great b2b warranty.. How long do you plan on retaining this car?

So two sides to the coin - I can't imagine someone purposely choosing a GL63 and not driving it hard, especially since they know they won't own it for long. I could be wrong though...
On the other side, 1,000 miles is nothing, you have the full warranty, and maintenance package which you can use at any MB dealership.
Seems like you're in the "driver's seat" in this deal, so you might be able to sweeten the deal even more... doesn't hurt to ask for winter mats or something like that. Or even extension of the factory warranty if you want to go big.

I was the GM in a dealership for several years. I treated my demonstrators like I treat my own car. I never forgot that someone else would eventually be buying the car.
The salesperson should have disclosed the miles right away, but at least it happened before you drove there to pick it up.

I plan on keeping this car at least 5 years.

If at least 5 years... I Realize amgs are very expensive to maintain and I purchased a 7 year/75k warranty... I would work on that too as part of your deal.

I'd think twice. Rewind 6 years to 2009. I bought a '09 GL450, "new" per the dealer's advertisement. It had over 800 miles on it and it was never tagged. When I asked the sales man, "why so many miles", he said that the GM drove it. Sound familiar?!?! I ended up getting a pretty sweet deal so I bought it for my wife. Within 1 month of ownership, it went in the shop 3 times for a check engine light and twice for front end noise, which was never resolved by the dealership; they said that it was normal. The 4Matic transmission cooler also leaked and they ended up replacing the entire transmission cooling system. After about a year, I got rid of it. Take it for what it's worth. You may have better luck than us.
I've purchased numerous vehicles in my time, all brand new. Ever since this experience, I don't buy anything with more than 50 miles on the odometer. If it's a dealer transfer/trade, they better put it on a flat bed instead or I'm not buying it!

This is a dishonest dealership. I would not take this car. 1000 miles is not new. Why not just buy one with 6000 miles on it and save yourself $12000-$15000+. If it wasn't a big deal they could have told you much sooner in the sales process. I would also argue they are probably breaking some consumer protection laws depending on your state.

You guys are really freaking me out now.
I haven't signed anything, but I figured that I'm getting a great discount and how is this much different than buying a preowned car (with respect to potential mechanical problems, etc). Are AMGs that much more to maintain?
Not sure where to go at this point. I'll ask about the ELW for 7yrs. How much does that usually cost? Never purchased one.

The GM drove it is such a BS lie/half truth that I have always heard.
This is a GL 63 AMG!!! Do you want a sloppy seconds, or a virgin for paying THAT type of price? or a reconstructed virgin?
Either way, I personally would not settle as the lower price is negligible for the amount of "psychological" thought you will always have while driving it.
Anything over a 6 figure amount, you better settle for the best and the perfect. Nothing less.............

Last I checked, cars are made to be driven. 1,000 miles is not an issue if the GM of the dealership is the one driving it. He would know and respect how to drive an AMG. So if you are satisfied with the numbers, go for it. If you're not comfortable, skip the deal. Go with your gut.

Negotiate a deal until you are comfortable and forget about the mileage.
-$10k is a fairly solid deal on a 63 that is still considered new in the eyes of everyone, but a car forum. For ****s and giggles, I'd try and see if they bit on extending the warranty to 7 years. Cant hurt,

dealers are full of ****. That gm could be a sloppy pig for all you know.
If GL63s are rare and you want this one, request a bigger discount.
If they aren't (i'm really not sure), go find another new one.
Trust no one about anything.
