2016 GL450 MBRACE Concerns
Just accepted delivery on Saturday.. Having trouble with Mbrace features to work but they tell me to wait 24-48 hrs... and learn that WIFI is not going to work although dealer told us it will... This not consider we are very happy so far. Anyone experience any concerns with Mbrace? What makes sense to get after the trial period?

In all seriousness...how could that be possible? How could there not be attention to it since it is so bad? Did I expect it to be perfect, no, but this is outrageous.

The new C Class has the newest Mbrace interface. The GL won't have that Mbrace until the 2017 model year.
Glad to hear they're really progressing with the functionality of it ... Lol

You can't blame MBUSA, it's their motto.

My biggest issue is locating app. Have another car with onstar and can see easily when in different states on a map. Was told that was not possible other than calling in Mbrace. App seems beta at times. Locks ok but sometimes can't see car in garage. The only cheesy thing about GLE 450 but kind of important.

Someone on another thread suggested using the "I" button to speak to a rep...and that after doing so it helped with his connectivity using the app. For me, it seems to have just improved after 4-5 days of not working nearly at all.

They call me from MBUSA and the dealer. They set up an appointment for me to go back to the dealer on Saturday and the delivery systems expert will work with us to try to solve the problem. I will provide an update.

The remote start they admit they have to remove/disable due to conflicts issues with other systems at the last minute. The WIFI they admit they announce and offer by mistake and they have a campaign to correct that did not make it to my dealer. These will be offer on the GLS but there are no plans to retrofit the 2016 units that were sold without these features despite they were offer and advertised. The recommendation was to send a formal complaint and providing enough people complaint MB might consider working on a solution at least for the remote start as that is programing the WIFI requires hardware changes of the command system. Have anyone seen any MB actions based on formal complaints?

We just purchased a '16 GL550 a few weeks ago and enabled MBRACE yesterday. It was a pretty painless process. We subscribed for all the trials. And will decide in three-months what to keep and what to cancel. I was told it could take up to 24-48 hours for full enablement.
We are most interested in the Wifi of course. And understand that, that cost is wrapped into one of the packages. Or is it? Is it part of the 5-year complimentary MBRACE or part of the Concierge or Entertain packages?
I also confirmed with the MBRACE customer service agent that my '16 GL550 has Wifi enablement. But have no clue how to set it up. I did watch a video of how to set it up for the S-Class, but no where in any of the menu drop-downs is there a radio button to select Wifi to begin setting it up. I guess I will know after 24-48 hours?
Anyway, if there are any experts on this please chime in. And does anyone know what package the Wifi falls into. Because if it's free, part of the 5-year, we'd like to cancel Secure, Concierge and Entertain.

MBWorld Fanatic!
3G WiFi - up to 4 devices - is under Entertainment package - $18 a month - a couple of dollars less when bundled with Concierge which is month-to-month too.
Call mBrace Concierge for setup instructions - remember it's 3G not 4G..

Not quite MB reply back other than remote open and lock WIFI and remote start will not work on the 2016 GL The WIFI was a mistake it was not suppose to happen on the GL2016. The remote start was pull back at the last minue due to conflicts with other systems. I was told to forget about WIFI hardware changes required. The remote start only if enough people complain as it is about software upgrade.

Got my wife the first 2016 GL450 that touched down here. No remote start. Just had a 2016 GL550 deliver recently that DOES have remote start through the app. Seems like a mid-cycle thing.
I have found that tethering wifi through my phone is MUCH faster, convenient, and capable than using in-car wifi through MBRACE. To get the wifi, you have to have the MBRACE Secure ($199/year) plus the Entertain ($18/month)...cannot get Entertain by itself. More cost-efficient for me to let my 4 year-old hook up her iPad to wifi via my iPhone and run her videos/games than to pay the $18/month for the service that may not be as fast anyway.
Strictly all my personal opinions, of course

Thanks for the clarification on the Wifi and packages. I do not have remote start on the app but I'm totally okay with that. I just don't trust it. Don't need my rig starting up in my garage and poisoning my family, including myself. I know, quite morbid but why take the chance. I'm okay with 3G. It's really for my son on longer journeys.
PS - Anyone know how to set up the Wifi for the GL? I have this feeling that although I was told that it's been spec'd with my GL550, it's not actually there.

Okay, here's the update. After waiting 24-48 hours in hopes a Wifi connect selection would magically appear in settings has not happened - wishful thinking I supposed. Anyway, just got off the phone with MBRACE and although I was told on Sunday that my GL550 had Wifi it does in fact NOT have Wifi. Was told that ALL 2016 GLs do not have it. So, guess I'll be cancelling my MBRACE and just hotspot from my phone.
PS - Not upset or bothered by this, somewhat considered it to be a bonus. Surprised though because pretty much all cars these days have it. I may just go after-market. And I'm sure it was costing Mercedes a fortune anyway. We absolutely LOVE our GL550 and could not be happier. It's about the ride, quality, safety and overall performance - not gadgets.

That sucks. I'm at AT&T right now getting a hot spot and upping my data plan. That will take care of that. And my 6 year can go nuts on his iPad.

This is not available on 2016 GL450 end of year production...

Thanks for the double-confirmation. I cannot see any reason to subscribe to the fee-based subscriptions without Wi-Fi. In theory, from a consumer and marketing perspective, this is the highest "value" for the customer. The other stuff offered is just noise.
We ended up getting a 4G LTE Hot Spot that plugs into the OBD-II port w/15 GBs per month. The only thing the device uses from the OBD-II port is 12v power. It doesn't access or handshake with the car's system itself. Hopefully that'll avoid hacks but I'm not really too concerned about that.
After plugging it in and getting it set-up which took seconds we now have fast Wi-Fi in the GL. I did not want to use my phone/hot spot because it just isn't convenient. Hop in, connect and play.

It's through AT&T and called ZTE Mobley. Plugged it in and was connected in 30-seconds @ 50 mbps. Seems to be a very good product to far. No wires, no batteries, no fiddling, they kept it smartly simple.
I hope that helps.
