Running board stain/pit

Anyone have an issue with a noticeable stain or pit in the finish of the running boards?

I'll post up a pic in a bit, but my passenger board had something splash on it and now it is permanently (at least I cant get it off) stained. What confuses me is that whatever stained the board did absolutely nothing to any other surface on that side of the truck.

Black trim, wheels, paint, etc ... not a hint of stain or marring.

I can't imagine what would do such a thing to one portion of the car and not affect others.

Any others? Any ideas to to remove?

Normally - I have seen it happen when soap/detergent/residue/water has been left to dry on the running board - and frankly can happen with "hard"/alkali ph water as well - gets in/under the clear coat finish.

The solution ? Some have both running boards pulled - disassembled - sprayed silver - and reinstalled...

What solution do you normally wash with? Perhaps it's creating the problem?

Regarding hard water, might your sprinkler wet the vehicle when watering the grass?

Or the humidity might create this? I notice one of you is in PA. I'm in NY and it's been very humid. I had oxidation occur on my home front entry door handle.

We just bought a cpo one and the running boards are scratched and showing different scratchesand stains like urs, especially the driver side.
I was thinking the material MBused was not good for a $70-80k+ car ....

Anyway to restore or polish ? It does look ugly.

This is not just an MB problem, other manufactures are experiencing the same. Google it and you'll see.

Per the home water, I'm on a well but the water used to wash car is run thru water system first. I also use a dedicated car wash soap, meguiers I believe. That's not the issue.

I'm thinking it was either something splashed from the road or at the car wash which I occasionally use. Maybe tire dressing?

I'm going to have a local detail guy take a look and see what he has to say. If no results, I'm due for a dealership visit and we will see what their response will be.

Thanks all.

I have had great success in cleaning accumulated dirt from around the black plastic alleged non skid pads as well as stains and dullness with a wet down, lots of BonAmi and are a really stiff short scrub brush. Scrub for 10 minutes a side and rinse. Then I followed it up with Reload silica spray and the boards are not only protected but look brand new.
