Shifting problem - Car will shift to R but not to D

Shifting problem - Car will shift to R but not to D
This happened twice this week. The car can be shifted to reverse (R) but won’t shift to drive (D). I had to switch the engine off and then on again to get it to drive. On both occasions it happened first thing in the morning as I backed up out of the garage onto the street. Car is a 2013 GL450 with ~57,000 miles on it. Dashboard does not show any error/fault indicator. Anybody have an idea what is causing this problem? Thanks!

2013 GL450
This happened again today.
Last time it happened, on one cold winter in Nov 2017, i brought it to the dealer afterwards but they weren't able to replicate the issue and find out what the problem was (no error codes). Nothing was done, but thankfully, the problem just disappeared. Fast forward to this morning, it happened again. Maybe anyone has an idea what's going on?
