Active Curve System Question

In the market for a used gl450 or 550. One of the options I really would like to have is the Active Curve System. Is this option part of a larger package? I'm looking online and am trying to figure out a way to see exactly what options (looks like there where a great many) come with the car. Didn't know if it would be coded in the vin? Would love any advice or suggestions on options you would suggest and or stay away from. Thanks in advance.

Active curve is a stand alone option. It's not easy to find used ones with that option.

It took us 3-4mths to find AC on a 550 with all the options and color combo we wanted. I even just looked the other day and all 30 white ones I looked at didn’t have it.

Blows my mind seeing some so well optioned but the money wasn’t spent on the best option for such a large SUV. Once you spend $100k-108k what’s the diff in the $3k option.

If you have low profile tyres it might be a bit hard ride in a city but I just love having it when going fast or on curvy roads. A real difference maker on ride quality.

I strongly suggest you keep looking till you find one with it. It is well worth it. Makes the truck a pleasure to drive and really does limit body role. If you drive one with and one without back to back you will feel the noticeable difference. One quick way to identify if the truck does have it is there is a small black triangular reservoir in the front left (passenger side)of the engine bay. The reservoir is to the fluid from the dampener. In most car adds they always have a picture of the engine bay and you will most likely be able to spot it right away. It is very rare and if you do find one with it the truck will most likely be very well optioned. It took me 6 months to find one and when I did it literally had every single option available. And at resale all those options added barely any to cost of the vehicle. It was only a few thousand more than a P1 package truck. I think the original sticker was $118k. Had B&O, Designo, Active Curve, Off Road, Night Vision, etc, Literally everything. 2 years and 30k miles it lost half its value. Keep looking, don’t settle for one without it!

wow that is a find!!! That’s why it’s crazy to me to see ones well optioned and no one thought “hey this wouldn’t add much to my cost and it will surely drive better”. I think mostly due to dealers not having ones on the lot to drive back to back to compare.

I have a 2013 GL350 with active curve system plus other options. Yes, this is the option that makes me smile every time I drive this vehicle.
Envy? :)

Active curve is a must have for this car. It is magic

Agree. I did not have it on my ML550 but do on the GL63 and the difference is HUGE. No body roll at all - so stable.

Has active curve and few other great options like Distronic and rear entertainment if needed.

That truck has an awful lot of miles for $40k.

Paid $38k for our 2013 550 with same main options (Distronic/pano/surround view/active curve)and similar miles in August. Diff interior color though, we got auburn Brown.

If you like it and are comfortable with he miles go for it. Don’t let be miles scare you. My truck has 93k and has been pretty much trouble free. Just few small leaks I had to have taken care of under warranty. I do most of the Maint myself. Not very hard if you have common sense. I have a 550 as well and my only complaint is that it’s hard on tires and there is not many different tires to select from. Plus the tires are expensive so be prepared. Other than that I say go for it, you will really enjoy it.

BTW, my active curve system started malfunctioning at 64K miles with a warning sign. The fluid leaked out and the dealer had it for 2-3 days ended up changing some hoses and clamps. It was a bit financially scary but fortunately, I purchased a MB ELW, which covered.
