Good buy? Advice needed!
Hey guys. Looking to make my first MB purchase. Its a used 2015 GL450. Black on Black MB-Tex interior. It has about ~28000 miles. The car has Back up cam Park assist BSM Lane keep assist Collision warning system Memory package Heated cup holders Heated seats Vital sensors on steering wheel Air conditioning in rear (code 582) - tri zone climate? Keyless go Aluminum scuff plate My total price out the door is probably going to be close to $43-44K. No lighting package on the car which I was really hoping for. What do you guys think of the loadout in general. This is gonna be the first MB of the family so not sure of pros and cons. Feedback would be greatly appreciated and please feel free to ask of you have any questions or if I missed something. Thanks to all! |
Hard to gauge if it is a good buy, without mentioning what they are asking for it...

What is included in the total? (car price + tax + ???)
My 2015 GL450 has similar specs (minus tri-zone climate, plus appearance package) and 35k miles and the negotiated price was $42k (in the seattle market). Also it was non-CPO. I was able to connect with the owner of the lease and he gave me the history of the vehicle. |

My friend is actually helping me secure this and its coming from a business auction so they won't provide us anything over bare minimum information. That's just how it works with these things. I'm not sure if I'm answering your questions but let me know if I missed something. If you don't mind me asking that 42k wad that just the vehicle price or out the door. |
that was the price for the car (then add tax, registration etc). Pic here: https://mbworld.org/forums/gl-class-...-first-gl.html. For me it was local, so no transport etc. If you have the VIN, you can add it to the Mercedes ME app and it will show you how much left in warranty etc. You have to create a free account etc but I don't remember any kind of proof of ownership to get this

If you want the lighting package don’t settle for this one. They are out there and lighting is proabbly one of the most discussed regrets that results in questions about aftermarket mods—-along with trailer hitch retrofit. |
I *think* I have the lighting package (maybe not). Can you tell from this pic? https://mbworld.org/forums/gl-class-...-first-gl.html

No lightning package, no appearance package = no deal in my opinion. You'll be disappointed with the lights!

The only thing is that nothing is coming close to the ball park though. Its super disappointing that a car of this class and in this price range doesn't come standard with at least xenons. I hate this car purchasing phase because of how I like my cars configured but then the money value gets into play and things go all over the place.

I just purchased a 2015 CPO GL450 in April that had 13,800 miles. The dealer wanted 48k, we settled at 47.5k. Out the door was 50.5k. The sticker price was 78.5k. The color is Iridium Silver with Gray MB Tech.
Options include Park Assist, Lane Assist, Premium package, Sunroof, Trailer Hitch, Lighted Star, Heated Seats, Hot/Cold beverage. No lighting package. In my opinion, the stock halogen bulbs aren't as bad as other posters are saying. What was important to me was the exterior and interior colors, low miles, and a near perfect body. Your vehicle seems to be a great price if you are out the door at 43k. I would recommend seeing the vehicle or at least getting additional close up pictures of the body to see the degree of rock chips, etc. Good luck! |

Any disappointments or regrets? Any thing that really makes you happy about the car? |
I love the looks of the vehicle, as well as the MB Tech seats and interior. There is a little more roll when driving the SUV that I wish was not there, but I didn't want to spend the extra money to get the 550 or AMG, as well as the reduced fuel economy. Also, with the weight of the vehicle, I can definately foresee more frequent brake pad/rotor changes and tire replacements. I originally wanted to get the AMG, but since this was my first Mercedes, the wife and I thought we would start with the 450. May eventually trade it in on a GLS63 down the road if the right one comes along. Very roomy vehicle for transporting kids and family members.

I assume you've done a CPO search on autotrader and cars.com? Also mbusa has a search feature for CPO's. In my experience you should be able to buy a 2015 CPO in the low to mid $40's.

Fletcher Jones in Newport Beach has several on their website. Priced mid $40's but of course you add taxes, fees, etc. I'd guess you could negotiate a few $$ off the ask price. But they are CPO and you can see them if you're in SoCal. Not sure about buying a car from auction sight unseen?? Have you seen a carfax on the Florida car? Gonna pay for shipping coast to coast is at least $1k.

I've ran carfax, and autocheck and they are all clean. It was a prior fleet vehicle for a rental, and its surprising to find the features that it has on one of these rental fleet vehicles. Transport is included in the total out of pocket as well as buying fees and all other extras. The vehicle cost is around ~37K and about ~5-6K is for everything else which also includes a small budget for repairs and touch-ups. The friend who is helping me with the purchase has a car business so he deals with used cars on a daily so he's guiding me through the process. |
Active curve is another option that gets a fair amount of good feedback on this forum. I didn’t see it on your option list. I have it on mine and really like the handling it brings to the vehicle. |
