Are you not able to hide that ugly logo on the left side? Also, I noticed your screen resolution is still 1024x600, not 1024x768 as per the listing for the new gen unit.
you can slide the ugly menu up and down but no you can not hide it. I asked the seller who asked the factory. This is probably because this menu open up when you open a door to alert which door is open, it also has other information like speed, distance travel etc...
I'm not sure why the resolution is 1024x600 not 1024x768. I did change the resolution on my screen so that it fit better... not sure if that affected it. You can change the resolution but it doesn't tell you the resolution only options 1-13. I'll check next time I'm in the car as this is the wife's car and I don't use it daily.
I didn't really take much of these specs too seriously, I was ready to buy the 5.1 and saw a newer version, so I went with that. If I bought it from Apple or Google I would be pissed if it wasn't exactly what I bought... this... meh... Honestly if I had the 5.1 version I'm not even sure I would upgrade to this new version as it doesn't even do what I had envisioned so it just functions as a better bigger looking monitor that makes your dash look more like the GLS.

yes the menu icon does show when you use the factory screen, in fact it pushes the factory screen slightly to the right. see photo, this results in a small gap. Changing the resolution changes the amount of gap. This gap does not exist on the non factory screen.
I am happy with the screen resolution... I actually think it's better than the factory screen. At night in no/low light I had trouble seeing the details on the 360 camera on the factory screen. I feel the new screen is brighter maybe higher rez than the factory screen and I see the 360 camera better under low light. Hardware wise I don't think the screen is the issue bc when you play hd video on this screen it looks really nice.
How is everybody and this unit? I just installed mine the other day took me total of 30 mins to install and about 40 hours to figure out this android thing lol 1st android device for me. Here is a 5 min. clip of my setup right now running on nova launcher.
Did anyone mess with the main settings for this to turn off the blue and red icon on the left side of the screen? that thing has no use at all for me and its annoying.
To go back to the OEM screen you have to use the shortcut key from the bottom of the knob. mine is set to turn off OEM screen and 360 camera. you can also use the clear button. I don't have to go to original launcher to tap on CAR DEVICE to go back to OEM
T-Mobile sim card doesn't work. I am waiting for a USB modem hope it will work in this unit
Carplay Dongle hasn't arrive yet.
Double tap to turn on/off screen. app is free at the playstore.
Connected thru aux. to make it sound a little better you have to lower the BASS, MID and TREBBLE from android equalizer option. ithink because the oem is already loud then the android unit make the setting high again then everything sounds distorted.
I still use the OEM Bluetooth for calling a lot better and clear than the android screen. so basically my phone is connected thru Bluetooth on both OEM for calling and android to play sounds of my phone.
"OK GOOGLE" Works! very neat feature. my very 1st request from okgoogle is to play some pornhub videos for me. but it didn't work just gives me a bunch of link.

I got new device (8.4", Android 7.1.1) and I got a few questions after I asked somebody to do install device without configuration.
Somebody mention that installation is 1 hour vs 40 hours of configuration and I think it is correct estimate.
Here is my status and I am looking for some help in getting things done.
1. I purchased unit from E-Bay seller 'autohome2013' and I am wondering if somebody could post screen shot of hidden menu setup. I have noticed that my original MB screen is moved to far right with big font and I'd like get it moved a little bit left - sharing setup could save me a lot of time.
2. I don't have sound on new device (original unit 'Car device' is working fine) - I assume that installer didn't connect AUX to AMI cable or ...If somebody could confirm if that cable is coming with purchase of unit from e-bay seller 'autohome2013'. If I have sound on original unit, is it indication that everything is connected right or it is separate setup - one for MB and for new device. Also, I'd like explore BT connection but it would be nice if everything is connected as it should be.
3. I'd like install a few Android applications and I am wondering how to install Google store. My ultimate goal is to setup Google Maps along with Android Auto application. I see somebody installed Nova Launcher and I'd like do same. I just need a few hints and I can explore by myself.
4. Due to I haven't done connection, I am wondering if we have port to connect USB - so far, I don't have any cable running out. Or how to access to SD card port ?
I hope a few answers on above questions could help potential buyers as well ...
I'm flying right now so cant take any pics but I remember "screen 2" looked the best for me. It looks great except the very small offset on the left side of the screen like shown in a previous picture. The ami to aux cable is definitely supposed to be included and plugs inside the center console and then connects to the aux output on one of the wire harnesses on the back of the new screen. I haven't gotten the BT to connect to the car BT like I did with the android 5.1 screen but my phone does see BT5155 or whatever it is when I scan for BT devices. I have been gone a while so haven't played with it a bunch but would like to figure that out because the audio quality is better.
I am wondering if it is possible to install 'Android Auto' on those devices. I don't have Google Play store installed and I assume it is going be first step, isn't it ? My goal is to install Google Maps but I am not sure how to do it.

You go to "apps" and select "play store". If you are new to android you will need to setup an account. This is where you download all your apps. You will have to be connected to your home wifi or use a mobile hotspot. I was able to install Netflix via the play store on the 5.1 screen but it says this device is unsupported and have to use this to install it.
The device what I got (8.4", Android 7.1.1) has only a few Chinese application and no Play store installed (it is very crippled version)
I downloaded Play store services APK and tried to install but when I try to run i.e Maps, I got message that I need update of Play store services. I have tried to update but it was hanging with white screen for 15 min and nothing happened.
I am going try resolve this software problem off line and let you know what magic I did to do it.

Inarein_Vegas and I both purchased our 8.4" 7.1 android from autohome2013 on ebay also. I don't understand why yours would be different.
No idea ...I am going chat with seller on E-bay and see if he can send me another unit ...I am not sure if any 'Reset' option which it could put me on original configuration.
Did you get your unit in Chinese on already with English menu? I got it in Chinese and it took me time to get it in English.
When I got unit it was all in Chinese language and with help of seller, I got it in English. After that I have tried to install Google application but I didn't have any pre-installed.
I am not sure if any way to install Google Play services due to it is my current issue. I downloaded a few but it is just white screen without any update.
The android 5.1 screen was in Chinese, but I think this new screen was in English when I received it.
I contacted seller and they sent me update file (~700 MB). I updated last night (copy file to SD card and reboot device) file but I didn't have chance to configure it. Of course, everything is again in Chinese but after going to Android Settings, it can be easily changed to English. As for unit, I have checked once again and it Android 7.1.1. Also, new image give me 'AMG' (instead of Mercedes) logo.
I am in much better shape (and more experienced with unit) than I was a few days ago.
I am going spend day or two with configuration but I am going come with question related to BT configuration.
I appreciate for helping me here on device configuration.

It seems that your file is newer (based on date) ? Did you get that file from them or ...? Hmmm, maybe I can get from you newer file if you have use it for refresh of your unit ...
If you are willing to share it, you can provide link or I can give you link where you can update file ...
When I uploaded file, it didn't format unit. I got some application installed from before and I can still see them. In 5 min overview, I can say that I got some Google options in setting and language switched to Chinese.
I see the my file is little bigger in size ....Also, after installed image I got everything working fine (I am handling device as tablet now with all updates.
The only thing I didn't figure out is setup BT. I want use BT from original unit for answer calls and keep AUX for everything else. I am wondering if somebody could give me a few hints. I already asked too many questions but majority of them where related to problem with received unit.

1. Please how do you connect the OEM camera to the unit? Does it automatically connect or do you have to connect via one of the RCA cables
2. How do you connect the USB and AMI cable in the center console to the head unit?
1) oem camera is connected automatically. RCA ones are if you want to connect an aftermarket one.
2) not sure of the question. can you elaborate? there is a usb cable that attaches to the new unit.

this is how i use the screen - i never use the aftermarket screen.
Basically i bought a screen that mirrors exactly what the oem screen does, just larger and nicer looking. You don't lose any functions. My rear entertainment system (OEM) also works the same.
