i bought gl over this summer and registered it at dmv after paying all the taxes and fees. today i get another renewal notice due 10/02 but the total due is $950. $258 registration fee and $662 license fee. what exactly is license fee and why is it so high? is this even correct?

thats how it is in CA, when you pay for a high price car, MBZ is expensive to register, did you buy through a dealer or PP? (private party)

i bought it through private party. would this be ongoing thing? or would i be paying lesser amount to renew registration from here on? that's hell lot of money for registration. i've been living in CA for 12 years now. never have paid that much for registration even with audi Q7.

but i guess back to my original question.. i wanted to see if there are any other californians who had paid that much for registration so that i at least know i did not receive this in error.

im in socal and my CLS was $500 to register... my former e class was only like $300 i believe, so it was a significant jump. I wouldnt be surprised if it went higher this next year...

I'd go back to the original purchase documents to determine exactly what taxes and fees you paid. Were any of the fees for registration and/or license and if so, for what period of time??

you have 2014 GL550? don't know where in CA you are in but that sounds high.

our 2016 GL550 registration renewal just came in. 729, 441 of which is license fee. we are in orange county
