gl 550 vibration at 68 mph
Just replaced the tires they needed to go. We thought the new continentals would do the trick. no luck. Thinking of road force balancing might be next step. 58000 on a gl550 souldn't be like this. Any feed back?

Road force balance is the only way to go. I typically ask for it up front and offer to pay extra for it. Even with the Road force balance the tech has to know what he/she is doing and the machine has to be calibrated right. Took me 4 trips to get the vibration out. 3 at the tire shop and one at the dealer. Good luck

My GL550 had a vibration at 70-75 too. A balance helped, but it sounds like I need a road force balance too.

Biggest thing I've seen with the GLs with the larger wheels, the balancing has to be perfect, not just close enough. Many of the modern balancers have a "smart weight" function that calculates the least amount of weight that will get the assembly within range, instead of actually making it down to zero. When we get the GL comebacks for balancing, you have to turn that feature off and do a true zero balance. I think it has to do with the overall weight/size of the GL wheel combo, but once balanced properly they don't shake anymore.
Glad you got it fixed.
