2013 GL550 Curt Trailer Hitch # C13102 or C13190
Hi All,
New to the forum here. I've already done a google search and a search in this forum, but there is conflicting information regarding the proper Curt Trailer Hitch for a X166 2013 GL550.
-ETrailer says C13190 is the proper one: https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Hit...leid=201327575
-Curt says C13102 is the proper one. However, Curt also has this model listed as the proper one for the prev gen X164 GL. Doesn't make sense that this model is for both the X166 2013 and the X164.
-A previous forum member stated that Uhaul could not install the C13102 to his 2013 GL because this hitch is specifically designed for the dual exhaust setup.
-A previous forum member also stated that Uhual would not install the C13190 to his 2013 GL either.
Does anyone here have actual experience as to the proper Curt Trailer hitch for 2013 X166 GL500?
Thanks in advance.

1st - in "general" the OE MB hitch for 2012-2015 GL/ML is MB Part # 1663101137. With your VIN# - double check that with MB Parts Dept at your closest dealer. The reason I say check with your VIN with MB Parts Dept - there were certain options on specific models that require a different hitch #.
2nd - with the MB Parts department you also need to check two other things - (1) if hitch only part also comes with mounting hardware - and (2) I "think" for your 2013 GL550 there is a different part# for a "hitch kit" - I know that "kit" includes hardware - and also includes full factory wiring harness - by wiring harness - I mean full rear-and -all-the-way to front dash harness - and that harness is not intended for DIY - it can only be done with hrs/hrs of shop work with NetStar diagrams accessable online since there are no instructions on harness install
3rd - if you are concerned about towing please understand the factory hitch is rated to 7500lbs - the Curt I believe is 3200/3500lbs check Curt website on that spec - if you are only concerned about bike/accessory-rack then the towing capacity is no difference to you
4th - if you plan to tow - then for wiring you will need the correct/recommended Modulite "adapter" for CanBus on the GL side for hookup into the rear GL wiring - and if your trailer has LED lights - you may need the $14 adapter that adds load between hitch socket and trailer electrical plug for LED light operation
Hope this helps buddy - most MB dealers do not have info - the GL is a GREAT towing vehicle - but "seemingly" MB USA keeps info close to the chest for add-on hitches I think due to fear of added liability - and frankly makes factory installed hitch a bargain

Thanks fabbrisd1. I'm looking for info on the aftermarket Curt option. With regard to the 3rd point above, the 3500 lbs limit is for the C13102, which I don't believe fits on the 2013 b/c it's designed for the X164 chassis. I think we need the C13190 (which is listed for the 2014 online), but was looking for confirmation from anyone who has had a Curt Aftermarket Hitch installed on a 2013 GL.

I thanked you with my first sentence. I suggest you reread my post and repost. I am asking for confirmation on an aftermarket curt hitch, not an oe mb hitch.
Thanks.
thank you.
Thanks.

I personally just installed the Curt 13190 hitch on my 2013 GL550 with no real issues. The directions are for the 2014 and up but except a few little things they are the same. I was able to do the install in my driveway myself in an hour or so. I bought the CURT #13190 from Amazon for $322.72.
As for the electrical part I did not feel overly confident so I had Uhaul install the harness all in for about $200/250 including the harness.
The only issue is that the hitch hangs a bit lower than I wish but no big deal.,
Hope this helps.

I have a 13190 hitch in my garage, just outside of Philadelphia. Truck is gone, but it's somewhat too heavy and bulky to ship.
$150 if anyone is local.
Good luck all.
