Thumbs up Is this 2013 GL350 worth buying?

Im thinking of pulling the trigger on this 2013 GL350 BLUETEC near me. Its about 79000 miles. Clean title with all maintenance up to date by local indy benz shop. Owner just recently spent about 2.5k on replacing those 22" tires and maintenance. Its got AMG sport package, premium package (keyless go and etc), and rear DVD.

The price? the guy listed it for about $26k USD, im thinking of haggling it down to somewhere about $23k.

Im no mechanic and was wondering if this is a good idea. The price is definitely tempting. Given the fact that its got 79k miles. How reliable are the 350s?

Or should i avoid the 350s and get the 450s or 550s?

Thanks!!

That’s a loaded question on this forum. All joking aside, I have a ‘13 and really like it and the diesel. I have 52k on it, no issues, and do my own regular maintenance. Diesel is a bit more maintenance dependent, so make sure you scrutinize the maintenance records. The diesel’s came with a very common oil cooler leak (mine as well) so best if that one is behind you (very expensive if not). It would also be good if oil and fuel filters were changed before recommended intervals (like 5k for oil changes instead of 10-12k).
I’d also be interested in others feedback as well. If you look around this forum, you may see more negative than positive, but only because we lack the good feedback. Best of luck.

i almost chose a diesel over the one i got and the salesman told me is that you had to pay for the diesel flush or something like that and as long as you take care of the car, as mentioned above, it will take good care of you. Sounds like you have a good one on your hands, happy driving

GL and ML350 Bluetec
What he said. But to make it simpler, based on my previous 164ML Bluetec (sold @ 120k) and what I've seen on this forum, the 79k mark is the beginning of about $6k of "Bluetec only" related issues. The issues will probably happen within 1.5 yrs from each other at $2k each. After that you're good for a while.

M ysecond Gl, at 60,000 miles now and love the car. I purchased MB extended warranty until 2020 and was well advised. Dreaded Urea Tank Pump and Assembly failed at 51,000 mi. One set of rear brakes and Michelin Tires, otherwise a great car.
I recomend the vehicle highly.

The answer to your question predominately lies in the length of your daily drive? You want at least 15-20 minutes of highway speed drives frequently for proper DPF regen. My wife was doing way too many short trips in our GL diesel to make it worth while and have since replaced it with a '14 GL 450.

I am getting ready to put my 09 GL320 up for sale. Its got 69K and currently getting prepped for the next owner. All dealer services including oil cooler seals from 2016. Oil changes every 7,500 miles or every year; whichever comes first. It is now getting decarbon service in the intake manifold and together with a new swirl motor. I got a code due to a sticky valve in bank 2 so going in there to clean it up before selling it. I believe in selling a reliable car and not dumping a bag of problems to the next guy and ruin the ownership experience. All records for new.

You will need 10- 15 mins (how many miles?... unknown..) of speeds greater than 40mph once the regen cycle has started but you'll need more than to reach the trigger point for the regen to start (when ever that is).

Its a pain for sure. My shop is successful using Liqui Moly PDF cleaner dealing with this issue on my GL. They have used it on gasoline cars with catalytic converter codes as well.

I currently have an 08 320CDI and sold the Audi to add a 2013+ GL350.

However, as I posted on the forums about an Airmatic issue I have, a member mentioned to me about the sludge issue and engines seizing up, dpf issues and other emmissions issues.
Have you all heard of such issues. I am a little hesitant now. I really love the GL and Id hate to go to a q7 or x5

I dont own a Diesel but the sludge issue is because of the BS they put in Diesel the Bio (CORN) Diesel before it used to 5% mix now its like more than 5% and then people budgeting on oil change with a excuse of 10000 mile maintenance causes this sludge and crap, you should be looking for Highway Diesel pump and no matter what change oil in Diesels every 4-5000 miles to keep it problem free.

Thanks
