The 360 camera in my 2013 GL63 AMG is so black at night its actually completely usesless, see attached picture outside my parents house so in a residential area lit by street lamps
I was parking in a supermarket yesterday and the white lines for the parking spaces around me werent even lined up, as if the cameras around the car are out of line.
I know theres an update for blackness of the cameras but despite agreeing that its very darl my dealer wont carry out the upgrade FOC, and wants around £120 GBP which Im resisting paying out of principal because they don’t actually know how much better it will be at night. Its clearly faulty or poor design so why should I pay.
Anyway will the software update make a clear difference?
So that you know there is a "Search Feature" for the forum... GL owner's report there was a specific camera software update after Dec 2014 - there may have been a more recent camera software update since then .

I can't tell of course if you have tried to adjust the brightness. My wife discovered this. Here is your photo below. I have circled the brightness control in the lower right corner. Rotate the knob over to this and press. A scale will appear on the right side of the screen. You can turn the knob to increase the brightness. Give it a try and let us know what happened.
I had the software update done on mine back in 2015 and it did make a fairly big difference. The rear view at night is now usable. Can't believe your dealer is wanting to charge you for an update that came out years ago back when the vehicle was under factory warranty and it should have been done by them back then.

On your USD$150 "Update Decision" - you clicked to the thread that openly discussed "yes" on this update - if you can't "make your decision" based on multiple member feedback that's your personal indecision and not for lack of info.

Update works! Use the search bar as I did. Very helpful info on the subject here. The service advisor during the initial visit told me there was no fix. I used the info on this forum to prove him wrong. Gl
Mine has warranty, I was told the update wasnt covered, escalated to MB AMG who said the same.
Ive no problem paying to be honest just think its poor when they dont have any idea of the update, show no interest in trying to sort it for me and caveat the quote with a statement that Im still paying for it if they dont make it any better!!
