Anyone Upgrade DRL LED’s Yet?

Hi all

Ive just changed the stock D1S bulbs for Osram Cool Blue Boost to get a better colour match to the white LED strip/indicator in the headlamp and I love how it turned out with the CBB but the DRL strips in the front bumper now look really ugly dull white/yellow, has anyone upgraded the LED’s in these strips yet please, do these dim a little when the D1S come on then brighten up if illuminated on their own during day driving?

Pic of the DRL’s on an ML just for clarity of the light Im asking about.

Thanks

Carl

I think it's a down-grade. Going to anything over 5500k (pure white) looks poser-esque and actually gives off less light than the stock bulbs. IMO, 4500k is the best color as it is pleasing to the eye and doesn't blind oncoming drivers. I always laugh at the posers with a blueish or purple hue in their lighting. Most of them haven't figured out that they are getting less light than a regular incandescent bulb and most "normal" people think they look stupid.....unless they happen to be part of the ricer crowd in their Honda Civics and Scoobie WRX's.

my bad ... thought upgrade was from halogens to LEDs ... lol ... the only thing left that is halogen on my 2013 GL are the front turn signals ... can't get access to the bulbs without entirely removing the headlamp ... unless I'm missing something ... ughhhh

From my experience, the LED bulbs do not last as long as the halogens.

Im talking about original equipment LED’s not halogen or cheap chinese afteemarket DRL’s. The dipped beam upgrade to Cool Blue Boost is neither cheap looking or reducing light output, try them before making judgement, you will be astounded at how good that bulb works, well in the AMG car anyway.

The perfect match in the headlight just makes the bumper DRL a bit yellow, thats the reason I wanted to see if anyone had thought about the colour change to white, DRL’s dont produce road driving light so colour changing wont make any difference in that regard it will mean I get evenly matched lighting up front, thats the goal

Anything that exceeds pure white (5500k) is light reducing. But that's just science. Calling "cool blue boost" an upgrade is really in the eye of the beholder. If you think it's an upgrade for your rig, then by all means, make the change. But IMO and those of many other mature adults, going past pure white on the color spectrum looks poser-esque and is akin to the ricer crowd.

my stock DRL LEDs are pretty "white" don't have the color temperature and are even "whiter" than my Morimotos HID retrofits from stock halogens low beams ... I'm too lazy/cheap to try and match the colors ... haha ... that said ... I love the contrasting stock LED amber eyebrow on my headlamps ... hehehe

Here in the UK, maybe other countries, the lights on most newer cars have become very white to match the DRL’s, if i buy a new Merc, any in the range with factory LED DRL’s its a crisp white light in the dipped beam and the DRL whereas my GL63 now has crisp white dipped beam that matches the DRL in the headlight but then the bumper DRL is more yellow.

A neighbour has a B class and all 3 are matched bright white from factory, its how they are over here now, all I was hoping to do was achieve the same, no posing etc just freshen up the look and reduce the ageing appearance of my X166 compared with newer MB product.

I accept that the CBB sounds like a bad decision, it took me months of research and a couple of other bulb options before I took the plunge, they are perfect for the headlight DRL, no blue tint, no nasty glare, not what I was expecting thats for sure.

low beams.

It's comes from the mot test in the UK requiring cars to have their headlights calibrated correctly.

Food for thought.

Do you think they yellow with age? Perhaps a brand new drl is whiter?

I think the dimming feature yellows them somewhat. Theyre much whiter when the low beams arent on but dim off when the lows turn on, this is when the colour drops and they look poor next to the white LED's in the headlamp units.
