That's too much mileage for a worthwhile exclusionary policy. The smartest option, financially, is to keep the vehicle and pay out-of-pocket. The car should get you to at least 150k miles, probably even more in a climate like SW Florida.

Keep and drive the wheels off of it. Made it this far, will make it much further. Buy the parts cheap and have an independent mechanic install. Most likely failure will be from the air struts and any competent mechanic can change. Do your standard fluid and filter changes and it should give you a long life.

From my local Mercedes-Benz factory-trained independent mechanics:
  • 200K Mile Logic
We will cut your ownership costs without sacrificing the quality or expertise you are accustomed to from your local dealership. Proper service along with our low prices will get you added value out of your vehicle. These vehicles are built with quality in mind and are designed to be serviced for many years after initial purchase. We consider 15-20 years or 150K - 200K miles to be the expected service life in this area (Chicagoland). A 200K lifespan will save you thousands vs. depreciation on trade-in as well as taxes and financing a new vehicle every few years.

thanks @SndsoftheSbrbs , i notice you have experience with a 2015GL63, i'm loosely entertaining a 2017 GLS450 (the turbo charge v6 engine) ... might you share some of your insights on that vs the bigger v8 engine? i currently have the 2013 GL450 engine (v8) and wondering about the differences in torque, horsepower, and towing, and all the nuances of the v6 vs. v8 ... many thanks

I've never driven the V6 GL or GLS. I had a 2010 GL450 with the 4.7L V8. The GL63 is a superior vehicle in every way. The handling and power are the most obvious differences. The ACTIVE CURVE SYSTEM decreases body roll to where it feels like you are driving a large sedan. The 5.5L V8 putting out more than 550hp and 500ft-lbs of torque make the car launch off the line and give it tremendous passing power. The car is always composed in a way that my GL450 wasn't. I find the fuel economy in the GL63 and GL450 V8 to be similar. My impression is that the V6 represents a significant improvement in fuel economy over the V8 models.

The bi-turbo V6 feels better than the NA V8 and gets much better mileage than either V8's by a large margin. Some have reported diesel like MPG figures on the HWY. Looking at V6 GLS's for longer trips. Love my 63 though.

if you didn't already know 2013 gl450 has exact same M278 engine as the gl550 with the detuned option (specified on the build sheet)
M013 ENGINE REDUCED PERFORMANCE
you can buy a flash tune that is said to make more hp than the gl550 stock tune. That was my original intent but I haven't gone through with the tune yet. There are times when i'd like it to pull harder but imo the GL450 doesn't handle well enough to fully utilize more power

Will I notice a drop in giddyup (torque) in a 2017 GLS 450 (M276 ... 3.0L? 3.5L? the bi-turbo V6 you're referring to) compared to my current 2013 GL450 (untuned) ??? What do you mean by feels better??? Should I wait for a 2017 GLS 550 or will I be happy with a 2017 GLS 450?

You will be happy with the 2017 GLS 450. If you want more power, you can get an ECU tune. I found the bi-turbo 6 to be plenty responsive and frugal on fuel when you need the economy.

I'm keeping mine - 2013 GL450 with 95K miles. Didn't have ELW either. I do oil changes. brakes etc myself and pay the rest out of pocket. Planning to keep it until no longer practical, but hopefully to 200K miles.
