Hi,
I need some expert advice on a black screen issue with my 2014 GL450 (X166).
The Situation:
I was repairing the storage bin latch (behind the cup holders) in the center console. A few days later, the COMAND screen went completely black.
Symptoms & Observations:
Audio is 100% functional (Radio, Bluetooth, etc.).
All center console buttons have power and light up.
Flashlight Test: I shone a bright light directly onto the screen, and there are NO faint images or text. It seems the screen is receiving no video signal or power at all.
The screen flickered once briefly (1 second) during my initial troubleshooting, but has been dead since.
What I’ve already tried:
- Fuse #21 (7.5A): Pulled while the radio was playing. Audio didn't stop (confirming it's display-only), but reinserting didn't fix it. Also checked #15 and #12.
- Hard Reset: Held the 'ON' button for 30+ seconds. The audio system rebooted, but the screen stayed black.
- Battery Nap: Disconnected the main battery overnight.
- Visual Inspection: Checked the wiring inside the center console. The main white harness is secure and the cooling fan is running.
Question:
Since the flashlight test failed, is it possible I pinched the LVDS (video) cable or a specific ground wire while working near the storage bin? Or could the display unit itself have suddenly failed?
I've attached photos of the console wiring for reference. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
