Thoughts on the new GLA45 coming to the USDM later this year?

It's not an aggressive looking vehicle. That's for sure. It's also wider, heavier, and sits 6" higher than the 1st generation GLA45. At least it gets the new 8 speed DCT and M139 engine, albeit in the "detuned" 382hp version instead of the 415hp variant in the A45 S. Tough to be excited about this one if you're an American in the market for a new hyper-hatch. It'll be interesting to see how many current GLA45 owners trade up when the new models hit dealerships in a few weeks.

I love it.. I have two on order for stock at my store.. no drift mode is a bummer, but doubt many use it?

That will be a fun tune, 3 awesome words OEM supplemental fueling |
I own both a 2015 GLA45 and 2017 CLA45 ... I went to the dealership and looked at the GLA35 and was really disappointed in the shape/style. I guess what made me buy the GLA was the hot hatch look ... which is now gone with the new model.

Mebbe if enough are made, and wrecked , some of those M139's will find their way into some 18's or 19's

It sounds like the new M139 makes power in a fundamentally different way than its predecessor too. It revs to 7k+ and, allegedly, the power builds more like a naturally aspirated motor. The reviews I've seen and read all rave about the new power-plant.
when fueling is the limiting factor, and drivability is a major consideration there is a tendency to tune for a **** ton of torque at 4K with a small turbo that turns into a heatgun past 6K ya give up some grinz pulling out of parking lots, but a medium turbo with strong fueling will pull hard all the way till the valves float |
That makes sense. Kinda sounds like the engineering philosophy behind Volkswagen's 4bangers with tiny turbos. If EGT's have come down I'm wondering if the new M139 runs cooler. Certainly hasn't hurt power output.

My 21 gla45 hasn't moved.. We may not see them until 21

I'm interested but my income doesn't match. :pity:

No worries, the depreciation of the AMG 4bangers means we will all have a chance for a low milage in warranty within a year of release.
