GLC deliveries on hold; December at earliest

I've been in contact with my dealership and was told today that all GLCs are being held in country (Germany).

My dealership doesn't know the details yet, but suspect it's the EPA being overly cautious after all the hoopla created by the VW Diesel scandal.

They've advised me that all deliveries are on hold and they don't expect to receive their first GLC until December.

ardadoruk83 10-28-2015 01:43 AM

I ordered on: 07/31/2015
Production Finish Date: 24/09/2015
It is in Turkish custom since 10/14/2015 but Mercedes Benz Turkey says it is still on the way for more than one month. i know it is already in Turkish custom but they do not complete my delivery.

BrianTucson 10-28-2015 08:43 AM

I should have posted my topic more correctly as "US Deliveries on hold" Can't speak for what's happening elsewhere.

US deliveries on hold?

There are a bunch of cars at the port in Long Beach, CA right now. There may be an EPA hold of some kind but I doubt the cars will sit at the port until December.

Check that

December 3 is the now official release date for the GLC here in Northern California.

liquix 10-29-2015 01:42 PM

Do you know what the hold up is? EPA?

December launch

My dealer explained that Mercedes was waiting until they had enough cars on the ground so that every dealership would have some for the official launch.

Germancar1 10-30-2015 03:10 AM

^^^ That is the exact same thing I was tonight by the MB dealer here in Plano Texas. They're expecting unprecedented sales numbers for this vehicle and they're going to have one for everyone that wants one. In other words MB is going to do a MASSIVE sales push in December to try to outsell BMW and Lexus to get the sales crown for 2015. I would expect about 6-8K of these to be sold in December if not more.

We have a Designo Cardinal Red GLC sitting at the VPC in Brunswick, Georgia waiting to be trucked to Tampa.

My dealer has 100 of them sitting there, waiting for MB to release them. But my dealer remains confident they will be released in November, not December as the OP suggests.

fabbrisd1 11-02-2015 02:59 AM

Yes - GLC will be "released" in November.. I hope release will come this week - because of the # that have been intentionally built up at port from mid-Sept - it will take some time to peel them off to respective dealers.

Auto Nation FL overall may have 100 at port - frack the "dealer has 100 at port" - and frack the "Dec 3 release date for N Cal".

Designo Cardinal Red - very/very sharp for the new GLC..

So much nonsense from so many sources - MB will decide one Nov day to email all US dealers the GLC has been released - then the trucks start to roll from Port..

If their real reason for holding them back is to move remaining GLK stock, it won't work. We asked about incentives on the remaining GLK's and they're low. If they want to move them, they'll need to reduce prices and/or offer bigger incentives.

Anyone who is computer literate has the internet and can easily find out the GLC replaces the GLK. And most will want the newer model, so holding them back only delays sales. It certainly isn't promoting the reduction of GLKs.

dr_swe 11-02-2015 02:33 PM

I am waiting for my GLC300, and I can confirm that there seems to be a delay: My sales had told me the car would arrive towards end of November, but he sent me an email today saying the release date has been delayed. He did not know why, but said he suspects it is of a "delayed approval from the EPA for emissions".

Does anybody know have additional info regarding this delay?

liquix 11-02-2015 02:48 PM

I received an email from my SA, with a tiny bit of info that he received from MBUSA but this as much as he knows:

GLC Launch Delay
The new GLC (X253)
Wholesale Launch Date: early / mid December 2015

I find that very difficult to believe. Mercedes already launched the car in Atlanta, GA (where their new US headquarters is located after moving from NJ) on October 30th.

That "launch" has nothing to do with the on sale date.

True, but it's very unusual for Mercedes to officially launch a car and then not start selling them.

I guess my point is so far there are just rumors and we really don't know what Mercedes is up to. But delaying the sale of thousands of cars to Mid December seems odd. Unless there really is an issue with the cars.

BlankProc 11-03-2015 08:24 PM

My wife is out of her mind excited about the GLC. It will certainly be a sales hit. GLKs are EVERYWHERE, and that means a lot of those leases are coming up soon.

And yes, the launch date has nothing to do with when they start selling them. Launches are marketing tools. I live right around the corner from MB's interim HQ in Atlanta, and I see the special green-bordered Georgia "Manufacturer HQ" license plates which I've never seen before. All C300s.

Haven't seen a single GLC on the road. Once they are out, they will be everywhere.

BlankProc 11-04-2015 06:07 PM

Just confirmed with a local dealer here in Atlanta and they're delayed until December 2015.

Just goes to show how many rumors are out there. I posted this in another thread here earlier and I'm pretty confident in my dealers information as it was the manager of the dealership who called me and said he'd just gotten this from Mercedes today:

Just got a call from my dealer. Evidently, Mercedes has announced a release date for the GLC and why they've been holding them.
  1. The official release date is November 21st
  2. The EPA was involved, but not because there is any emissions issue with the GLC. It's guilt by association and since another German Marquee was fudging emissions tests (Can you say VW?) the EPA was testing the GLC very carefully to ensure emissions are as stated and they are.
  3. When the built cars will be actually trucked to dealers is unknown at this time. But given there are many orders already built, hopefully, they'll start arriving soon enough to be prepped and ready for delivery on the 21st.

No one in the US has received their GLC yet. Mercedes isn't releasing them for sale until November 21st. Ours is built and sitting at the VPC waiting for Mercedes to truck them to dealers.

As to when the car was ordered, I don't actually know that. Our dealer has 100 GLC's built and sitting at the VPC in Brunswick, GA., waiting to be released. We selected one already built that had the options we wanted and it was reserved in the MB system under our name.

joshg1001 11-05-2015 10:47 PM

If you look carefully at the MB's october sales figures, they supposedly sold 2 GLCs.

I highly doubt to customers. They could be demo units that have been touring the country going to dealers for the sales teams to see and learn about.

joshg1001 11-07-2015 12:49 PM

if demo units were counted as sales, that would really skew sales figures...

I'm not sure if 2 units can have a significant effect on total sales. But the fact remains they have not been released to customers in the US, regardless of what that sales chart says.
