Hi from Land Down Under - Australia

Hi Guys,
Just took delivery of our first MB, new GLC 250d.
Love it.
Little bit disappointed with book manuals in car and on line manuals, lots of words, but not much real info. No line diagrams of flow chart picture grams to follow to learn sequencing to perform functions, eg, park assist, both parallel and 90 degree. No jack or any tools as it comes with run flats !
Now the negatives are out of the way, all the good stuff ......
4Matic
Selenite Grey metallic
Black Leather trim
Vision pack,
Command pack
Seat comfort pack
AMG line
Front side window tint,
Rear tub mat liner for boot,
MB tow bar
250 d, diesel with Ad Blu seperate tank.

Book recommends 1500km run in, nothing extreme, resist using manual changes.
Looking forward to many km of happy motoring. :zoom:

Hi Teckno, congrats on the car, good choice :y we're picking up our 250d in Selenite on Tuesday and I'm expecting a steep learning curve. Thanks for the running-in info. I can see a country :zoom: coming on. :)

Pictures please!

Hi, photos coming soon, too busy having fun driving and seeing friends , some of whom are now considering the GLC as their next car of choice.
First fill of tank, 520km driven, 322 km range left. Took 41lt diesel. Happy with that.
Sticker states Govt rating is 5.7lt per 100km combined. 6.4lt per 100km for urban driving and 5.3lt per 100km for extra urban (country freeway).
In Oz it appears we have an Ad Blu tank as well, 27lt. It's about $1 a litre here and should last up to 25000km ? Ad Blu has a shelf life of 12 months, so I might get the dealership to drain at my 15000 km service at 12 mths and only refill half , realise Svc here is 25000km per annum or 12 months.
LED headlights are truly intelligent. I have very high expectations and was blown away with these. On freeway in remote area, right lens dipped for other car, whilst left headlight realigned and lit up side of road and deep area into left to id any cars or animals. Very safe and effective.
Have not been able to get traffic alerts to announce or id on Satnav map, yet... Hopefully in Oz this works.
Wife over the seat adjustments and memory for both front seats and the headrest adjustments, depending on her hair style.. Lol.
Did a check of the new MOE extended tyres fitted, Pirelli, Scorpion Verde 20" run flats. Not common yet here, thing about $770 a casing, so I have taken out MB tyre and rim ins. Some companies will not insure run flats, due to inability to repair in some cases and cost.
More updates later.
Happy crusin ....:zoom:

Congrats! Enjoy your new ride! :y

Hi Techno,
Congratulations on the new Merc. We have recently taken delivery of our 250 AMG Line and still working out what does what from the rather complicated owners manual. I've found that the digital manual on the Command system is easier to follow whilst sat in the car - though I have had strange looks from the neighbours sat there for hours on end playing:nix:
I was also slightly confused that I had no tool kit or jack (just the towing eye) to take the wheels off, however a call to the dealers confirmed we had run flats and these are not supplied:rolleyes: I'm assuming this is the case for all owners around the world? First time I have experience this on a car and slightly disconcerting that there is no way I'm able to take off the wheels other than visiting a garage. I have been assured the runflats can run for 50 miles after receiving a puncture:confused:
I too have taken out tyre and alloy insurance for peace of mind.
Anyway hope you enjoy the new car as much as we are.
Greg

Hi still learning how to drive in this forum too..lol
Not sure yet how to thank individuals or post photos.
So,
Many thanks to re-tired, cyber3d, mbsbuc, diesel doc and Greg.
Went for another 170km drive last night with pizza at the half way mark, no, not in the car, trying to keep new car smell a bit longer !
I believe MB sell a spare tyre kit ($1000 ?), not sure if it replaces the under floor storage bin with a moulded bin to secure the rim, or if it is tyre, bag and tie down points that secure it on top of the boot area. If anyone knows I would be interested to hear. Appears some configuration between USA, Canada UK and Oz exists. Like no rear heated seats in Oz, not sure re heated steering wheel and seat air cond ?
Safety feature of 250d staying within the white lines on the highway, even on sweeping bend very impressive, I had my hands in "over watch" and all worked perfectly, was even prompted with red hands picture to grip steering wheel, nice to know.
Wife Loves the seat comfort and features.
Yes we too are guilty of parking outside strangers homes or in deserted supermarket parking lots, working through the screen options and the same time reading features via our iPads with the MB My Car app.
We tried using our phone internet connection, linked to the car and the MB INTERNET option for Satnav, but link said we were not authorised in Oz ?, so reverted to pre installed Satnav software in car.
Cheers

Mercedes Me Connect is also something I am finding frustrating to set up.
Each time I try to log in on the iphone it states I'm not authorised to use it and must contact dealer. Dealer says they have authorised connection????????????????
So contacted the helpline at MB Connect yesterday for advice, but was told they only work Monday to friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So another two days without this facility.
Heated rear seats and steering wheel are an option in the UK but not heard of the spare wheel option?
Cheers Greg

Hi Greg,
Looks like Mercedes Me Connect is not active in Australia. Whilst I registered, I just got an email stating it has been deactivated due to where I live. Oh hum, the tyranny of distance and a being convict colony.... Lol

The perils of living Down Under:rolleyes:
I assuming this applies to all MB car variants and not just the GLC.
You would of thought they would sort this critical item out or are the Aussie's not up to speed with these sort of things:smash:
I suppose I can talk as I'm having problems myself based on incompetence: :nix:
Happy driving!!

Another Aussie, New to the site and new to the GLC250d

Hi everyone, I am new to the site and from Australia. I picked up (after a long long wait) my GLC250d with most of the options.

Yep, I picked up the owners manual salivating at the opportunity to read it. Gave up after about 15 minutes - too hard to see the graphics (and in black and white - you have to be kidding me). Is there a colour pdf anywhere??

Love the car (I traded in my 4 year old Audi Q5). Still playing with the gadgets (much to the chagrin of my wife). A bit disappointed with the heads up display (no good for my polarised sunglasses and a bit too big for my liking). I think I will only use it when suing the satnav guidance- that is great on heads up. I had a prius iTech a few years ago and it had most of the GLC features except adaptive headlights. So hard going back to a car that does not have them - hence the GLC with all options except TV (wanted it but didn't want to wait).

Like others in this forum, I took out the tyre and rim instance. not sure what happens after three years (trade in the car???). I do a bit of country driving and am a little worried. But then again (touch wood) I have not had a flat in over 8 years.

this is my second new mere. I think I will stay with mercy for a while now...

Teckno 03-07-2016 05:43 AM

Welcome Winlotto,
I found the online Mercedes app for the GLC to be much better.
I intend to buy some spares, like oil (5-30 fully synth), dot 4 brake fluid and MB coolant as I think it is the 10 year stuff. Interesting warning that screen washer solution should be plastic friendly so as not to damage Perspex covering on headlights ( our Mazda had a different warning not to use rain guard solutions on the main front screen, to avoid causing malfunction of radar and cameras !).
What colour did you buy ? Yes I wanted tv's at one stage, our BMW has it, but now no longer usable as its not digital ! We never used it much ...
Thought I might also buy one of those small jump start kits, like Uniden UPP120. HN sell around $199, but mate got two for $140 each. Been stuck in our other cars after family listened to radio with ignition off, only to get that clicking sound when trying to start.
We were very lucky in ordering mid Jan and delivery end of Feb, altn was Apr / May delivery from other Dealers. Dealer was very helpful, really appreciate their service.
You get use to heads up, Mazda not bad, Lexus probably better, I find MB a bit too large footprint and higher on the screen, but I would not be without it.
Happy driving.

HI Everyone,

Nice to see a little Aussie chat room for GLC. I am an Aussie leaving in Hong Kong driving my GLC250 for about 2 weeks now!

The options that MB Australia are including as standard is very well equipped. I don't even have touch-pad and sat-nav with mine, but in Hong Kong, sat-nav is not really a big deal, as I am always driving in the city, so I pretty know my way around town.

As for owner's manual, I have also downloaded the apps, and it's great. I can be reading / flipping through at night. I used to take the owners manual as my bed-side table reading materials when I got my E-Class, but having it in an app, I can be reading it on my way to work in the bus.

Congratulations Techno! Good to see a few more GLC's down under.

winlotto 03-08-2016 04:35 AM

Thanks for the info Techno

Mine is a white GLC250d with CMI Command package, P55 Night Package, SPI AMG Line, SCI Seat Comfort Package and VPI Vision package. We naturally had the front windows tinted and had roof racks. I did the permaguard package as a just in case.

Like you, we ordered in late December 2015 and picked up last week. We were promised delivery on 4 different occasions, but I understand the delays were not their fault. The dealership (Toorak MB) actually gave me a loan car for about 6 weeks i.e. after we traded in the Q5 (there was to be a week delay, but it kept getting extended). They gave us a brand new (well 700km) E250d. We were worried about scratching it (we didn't). After a while we got used to the size and power. Miss it a bit. A good marketing strategy though as I am thinking of taking a good look at the new E series when the come to Aus later this year (similar insides to the S series according to the blurbs on line). Oh well need to make more money..

Well done on getting a loan car for that period of time. I was left car less for a over month over December January due to the trade in being due and many delays on my GLC which arrived in the country during the Christmas shutdown. The dealership only provided a loan car for a couple of days.

Has anyone checked the QR Coder Reader on the inside of the fuel filler door ? Mine when downloaded has the battery on the wrong side in the engine ! Not good for emergency workers, given it is hidden by covers and is below the cabin inlet air filter assembly.
This is on Australian delivered, right hand drive cars. In Oz the battery is on the passenger side in the engine bay, near the firewall.

QR Scan

Techno it appears that this is a common problem on Oz delivered GLC's. Mine comes up with the same incorrect diagram.
