is there an official bulletin for this and does anyone know if both front and brakes are replaced. seeme like the back to me but hard to tell. it pretty much just does it this one time of day and thats it. very odd. ikm afraid they wont do anything since they wont be able to replicate it most likely,.

There are posts in this thread, from June 2017, that list the campaign numbers for front and rear break squeels and also the part numbers. It's a known issue so if you take your GLC to the dealer service dept they should be able to take care of it. Then you and your neighbours will be happy.

Well cold weather is back and so our our screeching brakes. This is crazy. I think when I take this in it will be our 4th plus attempt at getting this fixed. Unacceptable. Maybe since our last replacement in Mar/April they have a newer fix? If not - going to go the lemon route.

Our brakes started squealing this week with the lowering outside temperatures. Now, the brakes even squeal going forward as one comes to a stop. Our squealing started October of 2016 with about 5,000 miles on the car. We've complied with all service bulletins and been to dealer numerous times. 18,000 miles on the car. And yes, the wiper blades still chatter after trying numerous fixes. We've had the car in to Mercedes dealers about 15 times in 18 months. Our Hondas average 2-3 visits a year.

The lemon route is generally not very helpful in most states. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975 is what most attorneys will use.

Thanks - appreciate the advice. I will give them one more chance to fix it, as my wife really enjoys the car.

Brakes started squeaking again today (in reverse) after a cold night. Had them replaced in April and this was suppose to fix the issue!

A gaggle of MB's
I have encountered one "repeat" so far this month from one of our 1st - updated pad replacements from early Spring this year - - in her case the squeal had just returned - the current MB tech bulletin was to sand pads flat - and reinstall pads using MB "brake goo" schmeared on the back of the pads - with a bead on each side .. a familiar process that was used on larger MB SUV's last generation - seems to work so far..

After 2 brake replacements, it’s happening again

the weather got wet and cold in NJ and the squealing started again. I’ve already taken the car in twice to get the brakes replaced (in late 2016 and in March 2017). This is my first MB and may be my last...

My dealer claims they are waiting for the parts for the new brakes that will "fix" this issue. Been waiting since July. He said, maybe December.

My wife's C300 needed a new set of brakes in the rear... 2016 with 25k miles... whatever... spent the money (nearly 600 after negotiating.)

I jump in her car with her last night, pull out of the driveway to the harsh VERY loud squeaking... so.. it's not just the GLC...

i wonder if perhaps the C and GLC brakes are the same, or at least the same materials.
annoying problem i agree,m but perhaps one advantage is getting new pads after 5 or 10k miles
i cant believe how loud it is - wow.

I had my brake pads replaced in March 2017 per LI42.10-P-065628 (front) and LI42.10-P-065058 (back) and have not heard any kind of squeal since then, even now after it's gotten cooler/cold here.
Wow, if the squeal were to come back, though, that would be about all I need to opt for a different car when the lease ends.

It wasn't so much of a squeal as it was a horrific banshee scream, actually.

yes that is the sound. sme for me was reverse only in the warm weather and in cold it does both, disappears after a few squeals (assume it is from the system getting warm rom use?). it hasn't been bitter cold yet i'm assuming will be even worse then.

My concern is they did the recommended fix for this and it did NOTHING.

Screeching brakes

I had my 17 GLC300 in several times for brake squeal and 2 months ago, they replaced the rear brakes. Since it has gotten cold, the noise is insane both in forward and reverse. I had the rear pads replaced under 10,000km and I am now at 12,000km.

Question... is there any reason why they will refuse to fix this under warranty? Will they say that since I am over 10,000km, it is just a wear and tear item? The car is only 6 months old and this is ridiculous.
Thanks

Ironically mine didn't start making this noise until after my 10K service. I kinda put up with it for 7000 more miles because service is an hour from here and it was summer and not real bad. I bought the car October 1, 2016. My service advisor made it a point to tell me MB only warranted the brakes for 1 year and I was one month over that year but that they would do a Dealer Good Will on the break pads so for that I was happy but it's now worse then before. They are telling me to bring back. Haven't said what they will do but I guess that's my next step. Surely this isn't a normal break wear issue at 10,000 miles and a wide spread problem that they are aware of. I've owned about 10 MB's since 1998 and never had break squeal even on my 2014 GLK with 100,000 miles.

17 glc300 screetching brakes

Just had my front pads serviced and rear pads replaced by MB Thornhill in Toronto and they are as quiet as a mouse! Advisor said that MB has recently changed the formulation of the pads for Canada/NA and these should work.

Been 1 week and no noises!! WOO HOO!!

I had mine replace a couple of months ago. Temps dropped and now I'm getting just one squeak. Happens for like 5 ft then it's gone. Not too bad. Maybe I just got something on the pad/disk?

Not sure. Seems a bit quieter than what I used to have. Like I posted, as a plus, it goes away quickly.. that's why I'm wondering if it's a bit different. I went on a wet dirt road and it started after that. Could be coincidence. I don't drive it a ton, so I'll see after I actually put some trips on it.

Curious about the 1 year on the brakes. Is that written somewhere? Or since it's a wear part is it implied that it won't follow the normal warranty?

I think this complaint goes way, way back. I remember growing up in the 60's my good friends mother had a MBZ and when she pulled into her driveway the brakes squealed. I said something and she replied that was a characteristic of Mercedes and if her brakes didn't squeal, she would be worried. So far our '18 GLC300, is "uncharacteristic" of MBZ (thank goodness).

Now that the colder weather is back, so are the screaching brakes. So, after 3 attempts Mercedes still has not fixed them. At this point, I think they should offer a buyback. Embrassing and inexcusable!
