This has resolved the problem with the brake pads. See link below

gfish, did they suggest those as part of the fix & have them available or were they some kind of special order part? Just asking since I have an appt tomorrow at my dealer & want to mention this.

I took it in for screeching brakes and this is what they installed so I would assume these were the permanent fix that is why I posted the part numbers for everyone and took pictures

are they a different brake pad? or is the fix simply the weights?

Are you able to see the Damping Weights even when the wheel is on? Or do you have to physically remove the wheel to see them?

Well, my GLC is at the dealer today and they confirmed that I already have the latest set of pads, the weighted ones that gfish has. Yet I still have screeching while braking in reverse when the brakes are cold. They are going to keep the vehicle overnight to see if they can duplicate the issue, which they so far haven't been able to do, to see if it's pads or something altogether different. I guess we'll see what tomorrow brings.... sigh...

JohnnyMN - I am very surprised that your vehicle already has the break pads gfish mentioned. I did some research on the part # (000 420 65 02) and i've been told that those pads were likely released some time in 2018. The original part # for the front brake pads placed on 2016 GLC's has been superseded twice already. Have you had your pads replaced recently?

I had them replaced earlier in 2018 - want to say April/May but don't recall exactly. Nothing since then.

Well then that is disappointing. I guess that rules out those pads as a permanent fix even though gfish has had good luck so far. Did you get any feedback from the dealership?

Update: both rotors and pads were replaced this time. Turns out only the pads (weighted version) were replaced last time. So hopefully with both components being replaced with the latest parts, this is the end of it.

Well the first time I took my car I brought video audio and told them it was the front brakes making noise. They obviously knew of the problem and we’re happy to replace the brakes. So I thought I was good to go but the noise continued. When I took it back they informed me that they had replaced the back brakes and not the front which I clearly stated iehere the noise was coming from the front brakes. So they replaced the front brakes thus giving me brand new brakes all the way around at 20,000 miles. For me this rectified the problem by about 95%. I still will get moose on cold damp nights.

I had this issue and did not see it repeat with new design pads. Unfortunately my GLC is in the service center for last 5 to six weeks for the gear jerking issue so couldn't test much more.

Edit: Please have the rotor also changed as I have seen messages in this thread that the new pads alone may not fix the issue.

Just had the brake pads replaced as part of regular service by MB. Noise completely gone and there appears to be no additional dust on the rims.

Looks like the updated MB brake pads are of a different design/ materials. It is a putty that MB did not do the brake pad change as of a recall, etc.

So I'm playing with the idea of keeping my OE pads especially since its warming up, and things are quieting. In that regard, is anyone with relatively
higher mileage (say 20K+ miles) experiencing a decrease in backup brake squeal?

Squeaky Brakes 2017 GLC 300 (STILL)

I have a 2017 GLC 300. One of the very first delivered in Denver when it launched in October 2016. Currently 18,000 miles. Been into service for the squeaky brake issue 3 or 4 times, most recently during the annual service a few months ago in Grand Rapids MI. Was told it got all the recommended additions and tweaks and it still squeaks like crazy. Getting near looking into a lemon law return. I have gotten to running out of my garage at a good speed and then hitting the brakes hard. That works. However, last night backing out of a parking space with friends in the car when I had to be more careful and it squeaked as loud as ever. It was 37 degrees out.

PS: To make matters even worse, when I had that last service i went to back out of the service area and it squeaked so loud that every technician in the MB service facility turned and looked at where the noise was coming from. I was told to try braking very hard on the freeway on way home, which I did slowing very rapidly and hard from about 80 mph, but nothing has improved.

Does anyone have any suggestions or have you solved this? VERY Frustrated and very disappointed.

I took my 2018 into the shop for the 40k maintenance, put this complaint in again for the 3rd time. The tech said there was no update and all they could do is 'lube the brake pads'... so I'm assuming there's a paste they put on the pads. The tech also said 'the GLC brakes are well known for this issue'. Very disappointed in this aspect of the Benz experience, I shouldn't be embarrassed by driving a Benz.

I know you don't want to hear this. But be done with it and change the pads.

They've probably become so glazed they're beyond fixing. Mb screwed up and they're just hoping you'll do new pads with them.

Try these akebono pads and ask your indy, or whine and argue with your mb dealer to jnstall these for free an d you bring the pads

In the end of MB of Greenwich changed the rotors for me. They gave the parts to me at cost and didnt charge me any labour. Noise is gone.

Thank you very much for all the helpful responses. I received new pads (although not the akebono pads mentioned above - a possible future step for sure) and new lubricant during the recent service at no charge so that box has been checked. I had been advised elsewhere to have the rotors machined which sounds complicated but having them changed altogether seems like a realistic solution and one that sounds like it could do the trick. The dealer here is definitely trying to solve my problem so hopefully with some mutual respect I can get the rotors changed at an agreeable price. Thanks again. More ideas welcome.

Absolutely not normal. Dealer attempting to blow you off.

Identical problem on my GLC fixed under warranty...and many other owners.

So I took my car in for service for another issue and did mention to them about the screeching bakes which recently started on my 2019 GLC (since weather got warmer). Apparent the tech couldn't replicate the issue but the valet who took my car in told them that it was very loud when he drove the car yesterday. So they found updated brake pads for front tires and they ordered the parts. They will install and see if the problem is gone, if not then they will look at the rear ones as well.

Anybody who had their brakes replaced and it resulted in the screeching being gone? This isn't a permanent fix. The permanent fix is when they don't screech with about 5,000 miles on them. Not many have experienced the issue on new brakes. It seems to usually show up in the 3,000 to 8,000 mile range.
